Advantages: Nice, sweet taste, Not too sickly

I’ve finally tried vanilla coke! I’ve been meaning to try it since it’s release but alas I’ve only just tried it (not today mind, I’m only allowed to drink water today, no food, no nothing, just good old H2O!). I tried it on Saturday and just had to write about it here!

I thought I’d like it, its one of those combinations that I thought would work, especially as coke is basically just vanilla extract to start with. I’ve never tried lemon coke but I can tell that’d go quite well too. Cherry coke seemed like a strange combination to me but it seems to work quite nicely on my palate so vanilla coke was just bound to taste nice!

Right then, now its dilemma time, does one ramble on about the packaging, ingredients, calorific content and the likes or does one not mention any of the above? How does one please ones fellow dooyooers these days? Who knows! As I’ve not written a food/drink op for at least 6 months I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do!

There isn’t really much use in me going on about the packaging is there? I’m sure we all know what the bottles look like (after all, they’re just like the normal Coca-Cola bottles except with “Vanilla” written on the label!)

Then there isn’t much use in me going on about the ingredients is there? After all, it’s pretty much jam-packed with sugar, sweeteners, caffeine and colouring anyway!

I can’t really mention how much it costs either because I didn’t buy it and wasn’t around when it was bought! I should think it’d be priced fairly average for a normal bottle of coke though. You can expect to pay about 70p for a 500ml bottle.

So, to conclude so far, I’ve not actually been able to tell you much about the product have I!

So, onto the all important taste test….

Actually, before we enter the taste test, I ha
d to take a whiff first (I couldn’t help it really, I just happened to inhale before I took a swig, all in the name of dooyoo research you understand!).
It didn’t smell much different than any normal coke to me, slightly more vanilla essence sort of smell but nothing significantly different to ‘normal’ Coca-Cola.

Right, NOW we can go onto the taste test….

To be completely honest, it didn’t taste significantly different to me at first. I thought “hmm, maybe its just my taste buds?!”. To double check I took another swig. Sure enough, this time the vanilla flavour crept up on me slowly. It’s not blindingly obvious to me (certainly not a strong flavour). It’s more of a subtle hint (as I was expecting seen as normal coke is vanilla based anyway). Quite a pleasant taste though, its not as sickly as I was expecting, its just sweet more than anything else.

It’s kind of got a crème soda taste to it. Only vaguely though. It’s nowhere near as sickly as that and it’s more refreshing than crème soda but it does remind me slightly of it. Because of this I wouldn’t class vanilla coke as being particularly refreshing. I think, despite keeping it in the fridge, it’d be one of those drinks that’d make you feel thirstier than before you took a drink. I’d stick to normal coke for a refreshing drink.

I would, however, still recommend vanilla coke because it’s a darn nice drink.

I’d highly recommend it if you ever find yourself doing a paranormal investigation too because the amount of caffeine in the drink, if taken with a Pro Plus tablet will mean you’ll be wide awake right through until 6am!
