Advantages: Tastes fab hot, cold, fizzy or frozen! And it has added vitamin C.

Disadvantages: High in sugar and can be expensive.

Vimto is a fruit squash drink that you dilute with water, it boasts that it contains added vitamin C and it comes in a plastic recyclable bottle.

Vimto can be quite expensive compared to other squash drinks but it all depends on where you buy it. I paid 99p for a 1 litre bottle in a value shop called B&M and I've also seen Vimto in pound shops but it's £1.57 in Asda for 1 litre or £2.20 for 1.5 litres in Sainsbury's.

A one litre bottle will provide roughly 20 servings, unless you like to drink it *really* strong like I do!

It has a sweet and gentle fruity smell, and it's purple in colour ("Shlurple the purple!" as the slogan says!). Of course if you have it stronger then it'll be a darker colour.

It tastes very sweet and refreshing. It's fruity but in a more berry/blackcurrant way than a tropical fruitiness. Even if you have it very weak, you can still clearly taste that it's there (unlike some squashes that you can barely taste when mixed with water). It has a very slight aftertaste but not an unpleasant one.

If you're just drinking it as directed (i.e. in water and not in lemonade or as an ice-lolly) then it doesn't turn your tongue or lips purple...unless you're drinking a LOT of the stuff!

As I just mentioned, it also tastes lovely if you mix it with lemonade (I know you can already buy fizzy Vimto but this is a cheaper way!) or if you make it into ice-lollies. If you do freeze it then add more of it to the water than you normally would.

It also tastes fantastic if you use hot water: it's basically a fab drink to have around all year!

The serving suggestion on the bottle is to keep it in the fridge then mix with four parts water but add extra for toddlers, but it keeps well even if it's just sat in your food cupboard.

Overall, it's a classic drink that tastes great but it's quite high in sugar (205ml contains 18% of your RDA of sugar) so I recommend you have it as a treat but not every single day of the year.

Ingredients:
Water, glucose fructose syrup, mixed fruit juices from concentrate 10% (grape, blackcurrant, raspberry), sugar, citric acid, Vimto flavour (including natural extracts of fruits, herbs, barley malt and spices), natural colour (anthocyanins), acidity regulator (sodium citrate), preservatives (sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate), vitamin C, sweetener (sodium saccharin).
