Advantages: Objectively, they fit their purpose
Disadvantages: Too sweet
I write this review of Vodka Reefs as a guy that likes his Whiskey and Beer, so my review probably isn't going to reflect the views of this drink's target audience. I'm not really an alcopop man at all, but I was given one of these for free recently, and well, a drink is a drink, so I gave it a go. My last prior memory was drinking one when I was about 16, but I've since graduated to what are, in my opinion, far richer and nicer drinks (sorry if that sounds elitist, not the intention).
The first thing you'll notice when drinking a Reef is the extremely sweet, almost jarringly so, taste. Even for an alcopop, this is a saccharine, almost uncomfortably so after drinking stronger drinks for so long - I've only tried the Orange one that's pictured, but I've not a clue if the other ranges are as sweet as this. They're primarily aimed at people who don't like the strong taste of higher volume alcohol, and I guess for that purpose they are pretty suitable.
A reef combines a little Vodka with a lot of juice, but the Vodka cannot be detected at all really. What IS good about them is how light and portable they are - they can be downed quickly if you're in a sudden rush out of a club, and also quick to drink if you want to venture to the dance floor. I quite enjoy playing Strawpedo with alcopops, where you place a straw in the drink, then wrap your hand around the neck of the bottle (as well as the straw), allowing the air to escape, meaning you can down one of these bottles in a mere few seconds. Considering they're very weak drinks, and usually only 275ml, it means you're not getting too sloshed or too full up too quickly.
These drinks are also pretty cheap, although I can't really say much for them otherwise. If you enjoy the taste of your alcohol, there's little point to these, but if you fancy masking the taste and just enjoy the feeling, then fair play - these are probably worth it in that regard.
Summary: An overly sweet drink that does hide the taste of alcohol
