It was absolutely boiling here the other day and my dad had me out and about everywhere running errands with my 19month old twin boys in tow. I was dying of thirst after 3 hours so popped into the spar closest to me, headed straight for the drinks fridge and stood there bemused. What on earth was I going to buy?

I decided water would be a healthy and perfect thirst quencher but in the corner of my eye in the water section a shiny red liquid was staring back at me. Volvic Revive apparently? Red watet ... really? I decided to take a closer look at this water imposter. It is basically a water that is fruit flavoured and coloured to represent it's flavouring.

It came in a 500ml plastic bottle the same way their other waters do but the lid not only screws off for if you want to drink straight from the open hole but it has a flip top lid which allows you to drink from a smaller gaping hole. The lid does click back down again to prevent the drink spilling everywhere. There is a red and silver sticker around the bottle telling us it's Volvic Revive - Berry Blast Flavour and Ginseng and Guarana. I decided to give it a try. It was this whole red coloured liquid thing - I was curious. I paid 99p for it so it had better quench my thirst I thought.

I flipped open the lid and noticed quite a wide hole to drink from so I knew it was going to pour out rather quickly. I squirted it down the back of my throat and sighed a huge sigh of relief afterwards expecting my thirst to be deeply satisfied. To my dismay I felt more desperate for a drink minutes later. It left a tangy film in my mouth and terrible bitter aftertaste as if I had been sucking on tangy sweet for hours. It left my mouth feeling thick and sticky and left me more thirsty. Well if you lived on a desert they would have to re-name this from Volvic Revive to Volvic - Won't be Able to Survive!!! You would never feel rehydrated after this.

Don't get me wrong the fruity berry is most definitely evident when you drink it but it's way too bitter and tangy and the aftertaste and feeling in my mouth is just not worth it.

These type of drinks are meant for people who are active and particapate in sports, do regular exercise etc they have magical ingredients that supposedly give you a boost. In this case it has Ginseng and Guarana to provide with you this uplifiting boost - well I'm still waiting for this boost to kick in and I drank the bottle last week? No no sign of it yet!

As I've said this is the type of drink that's meant for people exercising etc but I just don't reccomend it at all. When exercising you need a drink which quenches a thirst, rehydrates you leaves you feeling energised - just plain tap water would pleasure and satisfy you more than this I think.

For anyone that is still curious to try this drink after my review a 500ml serving of this contains;

9.5 calories
1.5g sugars
0g fat
0g saturates

I won't be buying this again that's for sure think I'll stick to plain water next time!
