Advantages: Nice and palatable drink
Disadvantages: Not great value for money
I haven't delved into the world of flavoured water before, so I decided to try out Volvic - Touch of Lemon and Lime flavour (Sugar Free).
What is it? : Volvic is a well known mineral water that according to the label is sourced from water that "filters slowly through 6 volcanic layers giving Volvic its unique mineral composition." Volvic - Touch of Lemon and Lime introduces a citrus tasting flavour to the water to offer a new option to consumers. There are also other flavours available such as strawberry.
Packaging: The water is contained within a transparent plastic 500 ml bottle that can be recycled. The addition of the lemon and lime flavour does not affect the water colour that is also reassuringly transparent. The bottle top is blue and is easy to open. The bottle can also be re-sealed with the top by simply screwing the cap back on.
Smell: The lemon and lime flavour gives off a nice citrus scent that is not overpowering and does not smell of artificial chemicals. It is enticing enough to try out the drink.
Taste: The drink tastes of citrus fruit and is quite palatable. The drink also does not have a bad aftertaste which can often be the case whenever a flavouring and artificial sweetener is added.
Value for Money: The bottle I purchased from Co-op cost 83p. A standard bottle of Volvic costs 56 p so this is not great value for money. Of course, a more cheaper and natural option than buying this product is to use tap water and add in your own ice cubes and a slice of lemon! However if you are travelling or commuting, this is a good alternative.
Healthy?: Fortunately this product is sugar free despite the addition of a flavour, and only contains 7 calories per bottle. However, instead of sugar, the product contains the sweeteners sucralose and acesulfame K. As mentioned above, I could not notice the sweeteners giving an unwanted aftertaste.
Overall: This is a nice and palatable drink if you are on the move. However, it is not great value for money and if you are home you could easily use tap water, ice cubes and a slice of lemon to create a cheaper and more natural option.
Summary: Tasty drink but not great value for money - you could easily create your own drink at home
