... convey this and I can imagine it would be very easy to have one too many banana infused delights, before you're suddenlly confused s to why you're swinging tarzen like over to the shelf for another. All in all, this impressed me. It is easily my favourite brew by Wells so far, and I look forward to trying more from their collection. This bottle is 500ml and can be found in most big supermarkets. I paid £1.50 for this, but price will inevitably vary from where you go....more

Crowned Review Wells Banana Bread Beer: Banana? Tick! Beer? Tick! Bread? ...um (570 words)

Introduction: In my quest for interesting beers from the supermarket, I stumble across this one. It caught my eye as I need a nosh on a nana now and then. As a typical beer or ale, I wasn't really keen (by that I mean, I usually drink stouts or porters), but realizing that it contained banana, my interest was well and truly pricked. Yes, it actually contains banana and oddly, banana flavouring...weird huh? So in my trolley it went, and on a night in, I plucked it out and took a sup. Following my last 'beer' review as a guideline, I've reviewed the Banana Beerness in the same format... Smell: The smell is mild and not really banana-esque ...  Read the complete review

My friend Kathryn bought me some Charles Well's Banana Bread Beer for my birthday...much to her husband Malcolm's dismay! "She didn't buy me any!" he cried. So it was up to me to check it out and report back on what I thought. It's a really hard life isn't it? We HAD to put the bottle in the fridge on Saturday night and we HAD to drink it! Purely in the interests of science of course! Not because we were going to enjoy it or anything silly like that! Banana Bread Beer is brewed by the Charles Wells Brewery, which is based in Bedford. This family business was founded in 1876 and has been at the present site (the Eagle Brewery) since ...  Read the complete review

Picture the scene: We’re sat together, looking across the lush garden at the deep azure sky striated peach and salmon by the dying embers of a summer sun. I turn towards her and suggest we partake of some refreshment; something fitting, summery and fruity to remind us of the summer we almost never had. “We can share that bottle you bought yesterday. And then we can write an opinion each on it” “Me? Share? No way. Listen here. You’re now an established and richly rewarded beer writer and you got that through sharing just one bottle. No, you want to write an opinion on it, you’ve got to drink a whole ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Beery Bananas (983 words)

"Have a sip of this, Auntie Joy" Those were the words that met me as I opened the door to my lovely nephew yesterday evening, in fairness he doesn't usually walk the streets carrying a largish bottle of ale but he and a few friends were celebrating something that I didn't quite get to the bottom of during this fleeting visit and he did look suitably abashed when he realised just how tipsy he was after seeing me (and his mother (my sister), which surprised him!) sitting soberly watching The Bill. "What is it? Why would I want to try your slobbered in half bottle of beer? Oh, banana flavoured you say? Go on then, get me a fresh ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Bananarama. It's Wells Banana Bread Beer (754 words)

Banana flavoured things can be very much hit and miss. Get it right and you have a morish comforting food such as my Mum?s banana cake, get it wrong and it tastes, sickly, artificial and like those foam banana sweets you get. When I first started drinking and enjoying beer seriously it was the Belgium ones infused with fruit such as the cherry flavoured Kriek that I tasted first. I had a lovely plum flavoured one at Christmas called Plum Pudding surprisingly enough. When I saw Well?s Banana Bread Beer in Asda last week I had to buy it as it seemed a bit of a curiously. I did have my doubts. Would beer and bananas go together or would this beer be a sickly, ...  Read the complete review
