'Hold on - what's this dark behemoth doing here?' I thought, as I perused the extensive range of proper ales on offer at my local supermarket. I recognised the shape of the bottle - broad with a slight taper at the base and a thick feel to the glass - definitely a Wells Beer. I picked up the bottle, read the blurb on the back, turned it round a bit more to heft its weight in consideration, and then found myself plonking it in my trolley - hiding it under the fruit and veg so as not to arouse too much suspicion from the wife (she who must be consulted on purchases of luxury items).
