“ Manufacturer: Whittards / Type: Chocolate Drinks „
This hot chocolate by Whittards is perfect for those who are trying to watch their fat intake and allows you to indulge in the taste without all the calories of the gorgeous full fat hot chocolates offered by this company.
Most hot chocolate drinks are made with milk, but not this one. You put 3 to 4 heaped teaspoons of the hot chocolate powder in to a mug, pour hot water on and stir. Because the hot chocolate powder is made with skimmed milk powder, there are a lot less calories in this hot chocolate.
Despite it being made with water and not milk, you really can't tell providing you follow the directions as to how much powder to add. It has a lovely creamy texture and taste.
Whittards products are quite expensive to buy, but you get what you pay for and this is well worth the price tag. Watch out for special offers and stock up - there is a 3 for 2 offer on at the moment (Feb 2010).
I'm drinking this as I write my review with some Haribo Marshmellows floating at the top and it's LOVELY on such a cold evening!
The taste is very smooth and creamy - it's good quality, and it tastes like it too. It's not watery, or powdery in the mug, and it definitely doesn't taste 'Skinny'!
I do however have to comment on the price, which is the reason why it lost a star from me - it's pretty expensive. I buy it just for myself, but I imagine if you were buying it for the family it wouldn't last very long as according to the information, you need 4-5 heaped teapoons per mug, and there are only about 14 servings in a tin for £5. HOWEVER - it does depend on how much you buy. The offer I saw the other day was one tin for £5, 3 tins for £12, or 6 tins for £30. But what if I don't want six tins of hot chocolate? I hear you cry. Don't worry, the offer was across all of Whittard's canister-style products, and there are many, many different kinds of teas and hot chocolates to choose from. Not convinced? I saw white hot chocolate, caramel hot chocolate, and orange hot chocolate as well as normal and skinny, so there are lots of just chocolate drinks to choose from, and a big range of green teas, normal teas, other flavoured teas (e.g. mulled wine flavour) as well.
Overall, I think it's my favourite new warming drink of the season - I'll have to keep it hidden from housemates and co-workers!
****Whittards Luxury Skinny Hot Chocolate ****
Whittards is a specialist tea/coffee shop where although the prices are more expensive ,it is defiantly worth it!!.There are 130 stores located in Scotland, England, Wales and northern Ireland.
Quite a few of Whittards products come in round tubs and this product is no different. The product has hot chocolate written in big writing and the flavour in the middle which in this case is Luxury Skinny hot chocolate.I think the type of packaging is good, the tubs are a good size and since they use the size on a few of the products they can stack nicely in the cupboard.
Described as luxury hot chocolate that is rich, creamy and smooth. At first i was put off trying it because it was a "healthier" version of the normal hot chocolate. On trying it i was pleasantly surprised, it still tasted really nice and if i hadn't know better i would never have guessed it was the low fat version
Simply sprinkle 4-5 heaped teaspoons ( 20 g)into a cup of hot water and stir.I used four teaspoons and i would say that this is enough. It tastes fine with water but even better with milk.It doesn't have a watery taste at all and i think that this is because its not cheap.
This is only available at Whittards and the tubs are always £5 or 3 for £12.I picked up mine for £2.25 each as there was a sale on.(my local closing down :-() . If you are unlucky enough not to live near a store they have a website where you can order products.
These are more expensive than the likes of Galaxy hot chocolate but in my opinion are worth it!!!
Simply sprinkle 4-5 heaped teaspoons (20g) into a mug or cup of hot milk and stir. Reduced calories.
