White chocolate that's hot, sweet and a bit yuck (Whittards White Hot Chocolate)

A friend gave me a gift set of Whittards Luxury White Hot Chocolate. I was really excited when I opened it and was very much looking forward to indulging. I love white chocolate and I love hot chocolate. Add to that the advertising word 'luxury' and I was absolutely sold. Unfortunately this drink does not live up to it's name or packaging.

Of course white chocolate is far sweeter than milk or dark chocolate but even with this in mind, this hot chocolate was really sickly. Also, to me, it hardly tasted of chocolate. It was all sweeteners.

In its favour it made quite a thick drink and there was a certain richness of flavour and creaminess of texture. There was also a pleasant vanilla smell when I made it up. That said, for me this just did not make up for the extreme sweetness.

You make this hot chocolate with milk, which makes it richer. I do not like hot chocolate that is made with water. It just is not the same.

I think this costs just over £4 for 400g, which is pretty expensive I think. But it does make a good rich hot chocolate. I just cannot give it more than 3 stars because I found it too sweet and I have quite a sweet tooth. If very sweet chocolate is your thing though, you will love it!
