Advantages: Soothing and warming, makes a change
Disadvantages: Too sweet by a smidgeon
A white hot chocolate? Who'da thunk it? Well certainly not me, until I was in my local Whittard of Chelsea shop and they had very generous samplers of this so of course I was absolutely fascinated to try this product and took a little cupful and subsequently puchased the tub for £6 for 400g. So a fair price for a fair amount of hot chocolate!! Simply sprinkle 4-5 heaped teaspoons (20g) into a mug or cup of hot milk and stir! You could microwave the mug of milk first or simmer on the hob very gently whilst constantly stirring.
It is made with cocoa butter sourced from the finest cocoa beans found in the Ivory Coast in West Africa. As you will see the cocoa butter makes up almost half of the drink so it is quite rich in it, it does not contain any cocoa solids, now this means it is completely caffiene free I've just found out which can only be a good thing.
The product thickens the milk somewhat slightly and leaves a very hot and very teeny bit frothy drink.
Now I will really struggle describing the taste, it was milky, very creamy and warming, erm slightly coconutty, a little bubbly, a little bit white chocolatey, all I must say is you really need to try a sample or something before buying as I think it is quite an acquired taste and something many of us are not used to. It also is extremely sweet and saccharine, I do think I would prefer this to be toned down just slightly as it is ever so slightly too sweet for my liking.
I think that this is a perfect bedtime in winter drink as it is extremely warming in the cold weather, soothing and I am sure will help you to drift off in no time. I think take a mug up to bed with a great book and you are well on your way. It is simply a soothing and comforting mug of sweet creaminess.
In summary if you can get a sample first do try it, I am still somewhat on the fence about it but it does make a nice change from the normal milk chocolate hot chocolate. The tub would actually make a lovely gift for someone as well as yourself, so see what you think.
I give it 7.5 out of 10, knocked down by the slightly too sweet taste.
