Whatever it is the drink still tastes like alcohol with a touch of something else, like all spirits do, yours truly not one to get pretentious in reviews describing booze. So there it is, 50p per unit, Scotland's parliament setting the price for its minimum pricing on alcohol this week. And it's needed, the Scotts the biggest drinkers in Western Europe, disease and violence rife in the principality because of it. The Scots had to act and they have, England sure to follow. But not everyone is happy, especially their world renowned whisky industry, the price hike likely to put up the cost of a bottle of firewater by 40%, a catastrophic rise in recession. And this is not all tax but mostly extra cash that will go to the retailer, the supermarkets, and the economies of scale of the big retailers the only ones able to off set that loss. Whyte and Mackay: I love a good whisky but unfortunately the piggy bank just can't stretch to a fine single malt on a regular basis so I've tried a fair few blended whiskeys to find an affordable alternative. To be honest I normally drink Bourbon but sometimes I fancy a scotch and it's then that I reach for a bottle of Whyte and Mackay; it's definitely one of my favourite drinks right now. Now I don't drink often but when I do it's an indulgent treat and so I like it to start with the bottle and Whyte and Mackay really delivers on this front.
