Advantages: Great tasting cherry Cola, not too expensive for an imported soda
Disadvantages: Not too healthy for you
*Coca Cola vs Pepsi - let battle commence!*
The long time war between the marketers of Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola is one of the more epic conflicts in the world of soft drinks. While Coca Cola usually spanks Pepsi in terms of customer recognition and market share, Pepsi has more than enough fans worldwide and occasionally manages to trump its larger rival with some interesting products.
This is very much the case with their Wild Cherry Pepsi - a refreshing beverage that has a considerably more enjoyable and less chemical taste to it than the Coca Cola equivalent.
*Availability and price*
I first came across this drink last summer when I was taking a lunch break in Covent Garden and popped in to Cyber Candy. No doubt I'd just been paid, as I can't afford to go there every time I feel like it. Wild Cherry Pepsi is from the United States and has to be purchased from specialist retailers in the UK. It ranges from ~£0.90-£1.40 a can depending on how much you buy, and the cans weigh in at 12 fluid ounces (Americans don't believe in ml). This is ever so slightly larger than the UK can size.
It can be had from:
www.cybercandy.co.uk
www.americansoda.co.uk
www.americansweets.co.uk
Costco may also stock it, as it's an American cash and carry chain.
*Floral bouquet, why didn't I wait 'til it was cold?*
The drink itself is pretty enjoyable. It has a nice whiff of cherries, which is somewhat more fragrant and natural smelling than the Coca Cola version, which has always made me a little suspicious as it just doesn't smell like a decent facsimile of what cherries should smell like. It's not as fizzy as similar products and this can be a good thing when you're drinking it at work!
There's a fairly genuine cherry flavour, too and it doesn't taste as much like a cola drink as some others. This is a good thing if you like different flavours, but probably not so good if you like your colas with just a hint of extra flavour.
My one comment/'warning' would be to make sure you drink this when it's really cold. Few things are nicer dripping in condensation straight from the fridge on a warm summer day. It's not nearly as palatable served merely cool. This, however, seems to be the case with all Pepsi products and the colder they're served, the better.
The nutritional statistics aren't so great in this drink - particularly the range of sugar and assorted nasties used to sweeten the drink. Then again - if you're drinking this for its health giving qualities you must be misguided at best!
A lovely change for the summer...
Summary: Wild Cherry Pepsi makes a great change of drink during the warm summer months
