Advantages: Quite rich in flavour

Disadvantages: An identity crisis

Wiru Export is extremely similar to Wiru Premium, brewed in the Viru Brewery which can be found in Haljala half way between Tallinn and the Russian border in Estonia, today some of the beer is brewed in Tartu as well and whilst I can't assure you that everyone I've drunk is from the same brewery, there was certainly no noticeable different.

Wiru uses old-fashioned Estonian beer making recipes but uses grain from Lithuania and hops from Czech Republic to create it's reasonably rich flavoured lager. A refreshing taste, a thick head and a smell which represents the taste perfectly Wiru Export is a pretty good example of Baltic beer. Personally my favourite beer of the region eminates from Lithuania but the Wiru (also occasionally called Viru abroad) is quickly establishing itself outside of the region and is especially gaining popularity in the UK (widely available at Tescos) and Scandinavia. There is a new look style to the bottle these days which features a thin pyramid shaped bottle with a simple label at the top in the colours of the Estonian flag. The older version can mostly be found back in Estonia though.

This is a reasonably good beer and at 5.4% it's a tad stronger than the Premium or Original brands.

Summary: Back to the hop!
