Advantages: A pretty good Estonian beer

Disadvantages: Bit bubbly

Wiru don't have the commercial success that their Estonian rivals Saku do, they are a relatively small brewery and most of their sales come through the Danish based and styled Bear Beers that they sell. The Estonian beer with more traditional recipes are much better than the Scandanavian novelty act though.

Wiru Premium is their bog-standard beer, the most likely one you are to come across - most commonly found in 0.5l glass bottles or on tap, it's yellow when poured with a medium white head, there are distinctive malt notes to it but it is largely a very grassy bear - tasting like the smell of straw or hay. The flavour is really pretty acceptable, whilst it's not going to win any awards, it is definitely the top end of average.

A downside is that it's noticably highly carbonated which means that burps are to be expected as is bloating! Lookwise the bottle oozes tradition and sets a precedent for the rest of the range with it's fierce medieval looking font used to title the beer. This is best served chilled and preferably poured into a glass. I have no qualms drinking from a bottle but the bubbly nature of this beer will almost certainly lead to spillages!

At 4.5%, it's a bit lightweight for this type of beer but avoids the complicated flavours that the stronger beers of this range go for
