WKD Blue.......
WKD Blue is an alcoholic drink that has been around now for a number of years. I do have to admit that it has slowly become one of my favourite drinks not only when out at a club but also when drowning my sorrows at home.
I found it is the easiest drink to buy when out at a club because you are far less likely to spill it than a glass of spirit and mixer. (I found this out the hard way by having many drink thrown all over my clothes!) Because of it being in a bottle there are straw stoppers given away at most nightclubs now so that people cannot spike your drink with anything, which makes drinking from a bottle much more appealing.
In a club, you would probably expect to pay around £3 per bottle (this is the prices where I live) but in the shops, they retail for around £1.49 pence (good mark up for the clubs). Of course, it works out far more expensive on a night out if these are all you are drinking. However drinking at home is much cheaper and there are usually good deals on with these 275ml bottles, such as the one I got this evening, which was four bottles for £5, or I could have had two of the larger bottles for £5 as well.
The reason I am liking the WKD Blue at the moment is because to me it feels very much like a summer time drink. Usually I will drink Southern Comfort that because of it being a whisky is far too warming and therefore best drunk in the winter time (in my opinion). WKD is a vodka mix drink and on the back of the bottle, the description of the drink is as follows.... "Sparkling alcoholic premix blending mixed fruit flavours with triple distilled vodka to create the original WKD vodka blue."
The fact it states fruit flavours is exactly right, it does taste fruity but if I had to name the fruit mixtures that are used in their special blend I think I would be hard pushed. Possibly blueberry??? I really am not sure however what I do know is that the drink itself is wonderfully refreshing and the first drink of the evening goes down wonderfully. It does have a 5% alcohol volume content, which is not exceptionally high, but by drinking one bottle, you are consuming 1.4 units of alcohol. I am happy drinking maybe 4 to 6 of these drinks and I would say that after that I tend to feel a little sick. Because of the fruity refreshing ness, it also has a slight sickly taste after too many.
I can also drink a fair few of these without feeling too bladdered which I think if I am planning a long evening with drinks from 6ish I need to pace myself and I always feel these are the best things to start off the evening with. They are refreshing and light to start with and because of the added caffeine in them I tend to feel like I have a little more get up and go than I usually would.
To wrap things up I would give these WKD Blue a great score of 10/10. I enjoy to drink them and they are a good way to start a great evening. I have not tried the other colours/flavours but because I like this one so much I think I will tend to stick to what I know best. An all round great drink if you don't have too many. Oh and please drink responsibly - never let any go to waste!!!
Summary: a great drink to start the evening with
