Advantages: Good for people who don't like alcohol

Disadvantages: Too sweet, not strong enough

WKD is a real curiosity, because the TV adverts, which proudly ask the viewer, "Do you have a WKD side?", are clearly geared towards men. However, 99% of male drinkers that I've met either can't stand the stuff, or pawn it off as too sweet and not strong enough for their tastes, and I know quite a variety of guys. Whilst I'm adhering to a wealth of stereotypes here, everything about these drinks has led me to believe that they're geared towards women.

Firstly, the taste is exceedingly sweet, and aside from Bacardi Breezer, is perhaps the most well-known "alcopop" of them all. Both are generally regarded as being designed for people that don't traditionally enjoy the taste of alcohol - beer, whiskey, ale etc, and so it's pumped full of sugar, and to boot, not very high in alcohol.

They come in 275ml bottles, which is a little under half a pint, with a 5% volume, measuring approximately 1.4 units. There are three flavours - Blue, Red, and Iron Bru. They're pretty popular in clubs and such because they can be downed quickly and are nice and light, unlike a pint, for instance. Objectively speaking, the flavours do perform an excellent job of masking the taste of Vodka, but the subjectivity lies with whether you actually enjoy the taste of what's masking it, and for me, it's just too saccharine and cloying to be enjoyable. I drink a few and I can practically feel my teeth rotting out.

If you're drinking to get drunk which, let's face it, a good portion of us are, then they're not so good for anyone with a half-decent tolerance. At 1.4 units a bottle, it'd take a seasoned drinker about 15 bottles to be good and gone, when the alternatives, at least to me, are far more appetising. Shots taste better and hit quicker, whilst pints last longer and are generally stronger. I do enjoy, though, a game called Strawpedo, where one sticks a straw in the alcopop bottle, thereby allowing the oxygen to escape as you down your drink. It's possible to as a result down a bottle in merely a few seconds.

Summary: Fine for those who don't like beer/spirits (not judging here!), but otherwise too sweet

I would only drink them if I had had a few anyway and was too far gone to bother about the taste. I would much rather have a nice glass of white wine these days.

I don't drink alcohol, but if I did I still wouldn't touch this.

Blue drinks give me the creeps.
