Advantages: tastes nice, good value for money
Disadvantages: nasty taste left in mouth and lots of calories.
These kind of drinks are known as alcopops and are usually aimed at teens or younger people in night clubs although I do sometimes have one of these, because I don't really like drinking alcohol so tend to avoid spirits and wine.
The drink was originally made in Scotland and was made in 330ml bottles that is now reduced to 275ml. It was launched in August 1996.
The WKD blue has a slightly fruity, sweet taste which is nice but makes my mouth feel a little dry and leaves a bit of a tangy taste in my mouth that means I end up having another drink to get rid of it.
A 275ml bottle contains approximately 1.4 units of alcohol, about 5% volume which means you can have 1 of these before driving, but no more. That contains 264 calories, which is quite a lot for a small drink really considering it is unlikely you will just have 1. 5 WKDs would be 6.19 units and 1320 calories, so they build up really quickly don't they. The bottles are convenient for drinking in night clubs because you can easily protect yourself from dropping something in your drink, it's harder to put something into a bottle than a glass.
You can buy WKD in two bottle sizes,
the 275ml bottle for around £1.30
and the 700ml bottle which you can often get in off licenses for three for £5.
The bottle is pretty standard, the same kind you'd drink a beer from and they're fairly plain except for the big WKD logo. These can be fiddly if you've had a few because you have to use a bottle opener on them although some people can use their teeth (arghh) or you can use furniture or knives.
Overall, this is a fairly nice drink that has nice flavour but I don't like the taste it leaves in my mouth, so wouldn't say it is a favourite of mine. It is definitely worth the money and the bottles are fairly cheap for a good amount. It isn't the best drink if you want to get drunk quickly because it hasn't got a lot of alcohol in, but it is good for night clubs or parties where you can have a bit without getting sloshed. Overall, 7/10.
Summary: Worth the money a good drink on a night out.
