Advantages: Refreshing and easy to drink

Disadvantages: Sugary, stains teeth and tongue blue

I'm not a massive fan of Blue WKD but there has been many a night out where I have found myself with a bottle. Why I hear you ask? Because as I call it Blue WKD is the "drunken choice". Some of you may not be able to relate to this but others will know the situation well. You are in a packed bar, it's your friends' round and they ask you what you want to drink. What in a sober situation seems like a simple question becomes a difficult mastermind type question when drunk. If you drink anymore wine you will need to be scraped up off the floor, beer is too gassy and you just can't face yet another vodka lime and lemonade. Then out of the corner of your eye you spot the bright blue bottle of liquid beaming at you from the fridges behind the bar... and there is your answer. You drunkenly mumble Blue WKD and your problems are answered!

***What is it***

Blue WKD is a blend of vodka and bubblegum fruit flavour.

***Packaging***

Blue WKD comes in a clear glass bottle, typically 275ml but 700ml bottles are also available in supermarkets. Blue WKD is written on a clear label on the front of the bottle. 5% ABV is written and that's about it. The bottles are noticeable and the bright blue liquid inside is such bright "interesting" colour.

***Price***

Blue WKD is sold in supermarkets in packs of four 275ml bottles. These packs cost around £4.50 typically although are often on special offers especially during the summer time and also Christmas time. The larger 700ml bottles cost around £3 in supermarkets.

In bars and pubs you should expect to pay around £3-£3.50 for a single 275ml bottle of WKD. Although in a club you are more likely to pay around £4 for a bottle, so it's not the cheapest drink you could opt for on a night out. Then again by this point in the night most people are pretty merry therefore less careful with the pennies.

***Blue WKD***

Without a doubt the first thing that you notice about a bottle of Blue WKD is the colour. It's blue, not just slightly blue bright light blue.

The scent of the drink is difficult to describe, a hint of blueberry and even raspberry. My own personal view is that there is a slightly fruity scent but mainly a very artificial sugary type scent.

When you first take a drink you will notice the drink is very fizzy. The initial taste is very fruity and there is a definite taste of blueberries. As you swallow the taste is less fruity and more of an unnatural sugary taste which is the aftertaste that is left in your mouth. After a few sips you will be left with a very sweet sugary taste in your mouth. Because the drink is so sweet you can't taste any vodka which is why Blue WKD is so easy to drink.

Blue WKD is best served ice cold as it is pleasantly refreshing. If it is slightly warm the drink is very unpleasant and tastes less fruity and more sugary and unnatural for some reason.

Alcopops are not the dieter's choice. A single 275ml bottle of Blue WKD contains 230 calories.

Dentists would probably also discourage you from drinking Blue WKD your teeth (and tongue) will be stained bright blue after drinking a bottle (or more) of this. Bit of advice, guys- if you are trying to chat up women on nights out don't drink Blue WKD. A very amusing part of a night out a few months back was a guy trying to chat my best friend up complete unaware of his bright blue teeth and he was smiling like a loon, not realising why my friend was almost hysterical talking to him!

A great cocktail to make from Blue WKD is a "Cheeky Vimto" or "Kinky Vimto" as it is otherwise known. In a glass of ice mix 2 shots of port with a bottle of Blue WKD and there you have it!

***Overall***
There has been an occasion when I have been to the pub for one or two drinks and I have chosen Blue WKD, but I have never really enjoyed it. If it's served ice cold it is very refreshing and pleasant but this is spoilt by the sugary taste and feeling left in your mouth. You should also expect your tongue and teeth to be stained blue after drinking one of these. Probably not my first choice of drink under normal circumstances although as a "drunken choice" it's a great drink!

Summary: The very blue alco pop

Wouldn't touch this (or any other alcopop) with a blue barge pole, but well reviewed!
