Advantages: fairly inexpensive

Disadvantages: Not quite as nice as the banana variety

I could be classed as a milkshake 'aficionado' - but I am quite particular about the brands and flavours that I drink. I've had some unpleasant milkshake experiences in the past which i'd like to put behind me, and it's time to move on...

The big three flavours in milkshake land are usually Banana, Strawberry and Chocolate - and although I enjoy 'real' chocolate, I don't particularly like it in milkshake form.

I previously reviewed the banana flavour of the same 'Yazoo' brand, and the following info relates to both products.

Campina have been making 'Yazoo' since 1989, and produce bottle sizes ranging from the smallest 200ml variety, to the largest 1 litre bottle. The size I generally opt for is 475ml - which is the one most commonly found in newsagents and smaller supermarkets. The brand is generally found only in European countries, although it is sold sporadically in other places around the world.

With a tagline of "The ultimate dairy drink experience", I must admit that Yazoo is a tasty product - but I wouldn't rate it as highly as the rival 'Frijj' brand which I also enjoy on a regular basis. That said, Frijj is classified s a 'thick shake' whereas Yazoo is of the same consistancy as standard milk.

The ingredients show us that Yazoo contains only sterilised milk, made from both the skimmed and whole varieties. There is less than 5% added sugar, and it contains Vitamin B to 'help promote healthy growth'.

The product is suitable for vegetarians, and the plastic bottle is fully recyclable. The instructions on the label tell us to shake the product well before consuming, and that once it has been opened, we should treat it as fresh milk.

The strawberry flavour is very tasty, but I find it just a tad too sweet to be perfect, and as such, prefer the banana version. It's not that I don't like it - as I do, - it's just that i'm rather picky when it comes to this type of drink!

On the whole, Yazoo is my second favourite milkshake brand (after Frijj), and in terms of its content, it isn't actually too bad for you. Costing around £1.20, the price is in line with other drinks of the same type made by rival manufacturers, and as such represents decent value for money.

"All the goodness of dairy"

Summary: A decent flavour
