Advantages: Calcium
Disadvantages: tastes yuk
My mum came down yesterday with some delights for my boys as per usual and out came these milkshakes.
Yazoo strawberry milkshakes are low in fat and have no artificial flavours or sweeteners which is good to know as I don't want Noah consuming anything with aspartame inside. They also contain no preservatives and have less than 5%added sugar. The ones we have are 200ml bottles and come in a pack of four. The milkshake is made with semi skimmed milk which I was quite surprised at. I thought they would be made with skimmed milk considering that they were advertising that they were low in fat.
The milkshake comes in a handy little plastic bottle which has a screw top lid. Once you open the lid there is a foiled top which you can poke a straw through to drink the contents inside.
The bottle suggests that you shake it before you drink it so before I drank some I did what it suggested. There's nothing worse than getting to the bottom of the bottle and finding powdery bits floating around! I didn't bother using a straw as I wanted to see the contents before I started drinking it. I peeled back the lid which was very easily done and peered inside. The liquid had a faint pink colour to it so I wasn't expecting it to be very strong. They other thing I noticed was the fact that the consistency was very watery. I was a little surprised at this because in my experience of bottled milkshakes, they are much thicker.
When I had my first taste of the milkshake I was shocked at how sugary it tasted. I could taste the strawberry flavour which was very mild but the over whelming sugary taste put me off wanting to drink any more. There was a slight creaminess to the whole thing because of the milk but it reminded me of a weak, home made Nesquick milkshake with lots of added sugar. I did have a few more sips but couldn't finish the bottle despite having a very sweet tooth normally. The other thing I noticed about this milkshake was the fact that it left a funny after taste in my mouth which was very unpleasant.
Over all I didn't enjoy this milkshake at all and would take a Frijj one over this, any day. It was bland, sugary and plain awful. Having said that they are convenient for someone who wants a calcium hit in their lunch break because of the bottle they come in or kids lunchboxes.
Summary: A horrible milkshake
