Advantages: strength, flavour, colour
Disadvantages: maybe cost?
Yorkshire Tea is what I drink these days, so the advert tells us! And so do I! I am the type of person who enjoys a cuppa without having to fuss about with leaves and pots etc. Yep, I fling a bag in a cup and add the water! However, it is advisable to ensure that the water is boiling – otherwise you’ll get the ‘yuck’ effect face! I have tried almost all the teas available (teabags that is), Tetley, Typhoo, PG, Sainsbury’s red label, Brooke Bond D, you name and I’ve probably tried it! However, when it came to Yorkshire tea it took me a while before I decided to go for it and buy that red box sitting on Sainsbury’s shelf. But I eventually gave in and bought a box of 80 bags. At this point I would like to point out that 80 tea bags costs round £1.89, although you may get these cheaper depending on where you buy them of course. Now where was I? Oh yes: so now I had the box in my cupboard waiting for my ‘old’ bags (No not you dear!) to finish. As usual it was me who filled the caddy up with the bags (and the loo roll-but that’s another matter). So having filled the caddy up I placed the kettle on to try this British tea out. Flinging the bag in the mug to float in the milk (Always put the milk in first-in my opinion better taste all round!). I added the boiling water, and left it for a minute to ‘soak’. When I took the bag out, I was pleasantly surprised by the colour of the tea. I am the sort of person who likes to see a nice browny colour in their tea, even though I like the average amount of milk. With other teas (particularly Shops own and Brooke Bond D etc) the tea never seemed to colour the milky water, despite numerous dunks! But this one was immediately different in this way. Now came the tasting – all very well having a tan, but if it didn’t taste good what was the point? ‘Mug raised to reach lips’ –SLURP! A
h Yes the taste is something else too, so it is true what Trampus once said –‘you get what you pay for’. So to sum it all up Yorkshire Tea is an excellent refreshing tea, which has the full flavour of a traditional cuppa, along with enough colour to please even those who like the darkest tan tea! Those kind people at Yorkshire tea pack 10,000 tea bags every minute of every day to keep our tea cups/pots full and happy! They are a family run business that have been around for 100 years now. These days Yorkshire Tea is enjoyed in over 30 countries around the world, from Harrogate to Honolulu, Sheffield to Sydney, York to New York For coffee lovers, they also roast delicious coffee. In fact they provided the coffee for the coronation dinner of King Edward VII (Didn’t you want to know that?) They make different teas for different areas (although anyone in any area can use any tea – of course). But their original tea (in the red box) is more suitable for people in a soft water/medium water area. For people with really hard water (as in my case I recommend you get a Brita water filter if you have hard water) they produce a hard water area tea just for us! How many other tea companies think of us like that! They also produce ‘Gold’, which is the deluxe range of their range. Also they are helping the environment, over the last year they have helped plant over 1,000,000 new trees. I wholly recommend Yorkshire tea, I have tried both the original and hard water bags, and there isn’t any difference in the taste that I could note. However the hard water one are slightly dearer I believe. These days I drink Yorkshire tea, and if you don’t believe me then you can get a free sample of six tea bags from their web site at: http://www.yorkshiretea.co.uk/water.html#

- 11/02/04 It is very nice I agree. Has much better flavour than PG Tips or other similar priced teas. The PG tip pyramid bag things is a con - they make the bags that shape so they don't have to put as many tea leaves in them. Stick with square bags that's what I say! |

- 27/11/01 Lemon tea for me, but they sound like a nice company, so if Tesco are ever out of Tea Direct then I'll buy some for guests! |

- 26/11/01 tea-tastic! I'm strictly a herbal girl these days, but in my sad caffeine addicted past I did like Scottish Blend - as seen on High Road! My gran would have you strung up for teabag abuse btw - she won't drink anything that hasn't come out of a porcelain flowery teapot, with a side order of rich teas. ARGH! Cheers, kaz |
