Advantages: Solid as a rock., Does exactly what you expect

Disadvantages: A bit pricey., Hard learning curve

Having now owned this piece of hardware for a year, I thought it was only fair that I shared my thoughts with others.

I purchased this kit on the dusty london streets, Denmark Street to be exact.

When I saw it in the shop it called out to me to buy it. Having listened to great drummers such as Vinnie Paul from Pantera, and the drummer from Fear Factory give the double bass a damn good thrashing, I thought i'd give it ago myself. I have studied and played drums for just over 10 years now, so I didn't think I would have much trouble getting to grips with it. However don't be fooled. You have to learn a totally different technique to drumming, it is not as easy as it looks. Of course though the features that the DPF 700 has makes life just that little bit easier.

This is a list of the specifications given by Yamaha, followed by my comments:

1. Double chain drive pedal with baseplate - Solid as a rock, Baseplate can be firmly secured to the bottom of the bass drum, which in turn

also steadys the whole drum and stops it from moving about if you already have dodgy supports.

2. Fast action - Self explanatory. Both pedals are very responsive.

3. Wide-ranging adjustment capability - I cannot express enough how easy these pedals are to adjust, if you're not comfortable with something, change it.

4. Natural feel - Feels like other good pedals, very responsive, and no great force is needed unless required. The spring is very natural.

5. Easy to position - Pedals can really be placed anywhere due to the middle piece (piece of metal that connects the 2nd pedal to the bass unit) being fully customizable.

6. Maximum durability - Ergonomicaly this pedal is huge. It is very steady once clamped onto the bass drum. And it looks like a mean beast to boot :)

Now as you can imagine the pedal does exactly what it says on the &#
39;proverbial' tin. My main worry when I first got it was how long will it last? To be honest there is no point in worrying about the longetivity of this hardware because of the sheer size and durability of it, and durable it is, you'd expect nothing less for the amount it costs. If something goes wrong, simply tighten a nut or screw. The pedals are built to with-stand the largest of forces (fully tested by yours truly). If it feels too tight simply loosen a nut which gives more slack to the springs.

I reccomend this pedal to any Rock, Punk and Metal fans around. Just don't expect to be able to pick it up straight away due to it's hard 'learning/mastering' curve. Also, what's more you get a tool with it which has its own neat little storage space on the base unit. This tool is great because it's used to make any adjustments needed, and hopefully you'll use it's little resting place so it won't get lost.

Despite the high price tag, in my opinion this is money well spent. The main reason for this is because of how solid the hardware is. I highly reccomend this hardware to anybody that cannot afford another set of drums, also why take up so much more space when you can use this?

However nothing beats watching a drummer go at two kits at once, a la Vinnie Paul style.
