I run music classes for the under fives and during the class the little ones get to choose their own instrument out of a mixed percussion box. I have one of these in the box.
I purchased mine about four years ago and its still going strong considering I teach about a hundred children a week its made well, its had a lot of use and some of it has been heavy handed use too.
Mine came with a wooden beater supplied.
Its a popular instrument with all the children, the parents can't stand it but maybe that has something to do with the way it is played and the volume it is played at.
It's not the nicest instrument to listen too and the sound it produces is loud (and that's an understatement)
You dont have to be a musician to play it and as part of a wider instrument set it has its place.
I paid about £10 all those years ago and if I had heard it before I purchased it I may have thought twice.
