Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive

If you own a MacBook Air and it hasn't got a disc drive (from late 2008ish) and you still use DVDs and CDs, then the superdrive is an essential piece of kit.
One of the few gripes with MBA's is their lack of disc drive. That's right, in an attempt to make their laptops nearly as thin as credit card, Apple omitted the disc ... drive in the side. This is easily overcome with all the apps that are available, and with services such as LoveFilm, and if you have an iMac then any software you may have in physical format can be dropped from the drive on your iMac to your MBA wirelessly.
The superdrive is easy to connect up (3 minutes and you are setup), easy to use, runs smoothly and quietly and is super lightweight. It comes with a high quality feel and is very easy on the eye as with all other Apple products, and if you do feel you will need to use physical media with your MBA, then the Superdrive is an essential accessory.
It is a little overpriced for my liking (sub £50 sounds reasonable) but there again this is Apple, and with that comes complete piece of mind about the quality. Read the complete review |

Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive

This item is necessary if you have a Macbook Air and need a disc drive for any reason. I think that Apple tried to be too futuristic with this design, as I still find myself needing the CD drive from time to time especially to watch DVDs and download tracks off CDs into iTunes. However, if you watch films online via Netflix (limited ... selection) or download everything straight from iTunes etc, then I would imagine that this accessory is less necessary for you.
I also use a disc drive to install things from CDs onto the Mac, so for me it is a necessary item. Around the time of my A levels when I was using this computer, I had revision CDs for powerpoints too so it came in useful and I got lots of use out of it.
--My personal experience--
You can buy different external drives that are compatible with Macs but this was my preferred choice for material reasons, as Apple products are so stylish!
My first impressions were that this product is a little overpriced for what it is. It retails at around £70 at the Apple store, but you can get discounts online so shop around. I think I bought mine from Amazon.
You could get away without needing an external disc drive, but for my personal needs I decided to invest in one anyway.
This product is silver and matches the standard Macbook Air design, it is very sleek looking and features the Apple logo underneath the disc drive.
The only problem with this is that when you are sitting with the laptop, the cable is subject to stress and it is not that strong a cable so I can foresee future problems like is the case with the Macbook charger. The disc drive is prone to sticking at times which is it's main flaw along with the awkwardness of having the laptop in your lap and the CD drive draped down the side of your lap, thus putting tension on the wire.
--Price and availability--
Available online, on the Apple site, in any Apple store and across the internet in various Apple outlets and Amazon and eBay. I would suggest that Amazon and eBay would offer you the best deals if you are looking for a bargain! I would also suggest not buying second hand as it is quite a flimsy product unless you can see what you are paying for.
--Summary--
Overpriced and flimsy piece of equipment, but fits in with the silver Apple Macbook Air theme so if you like your accessories to match there's no other option for you! 4 Dooyoo stars. Read the complete review |

Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive

The Macbook Air Superdrive is fantastic, as a Macbook Air owner I new that with the all flash storage of the Air that I would need this product as I have to have DVD capability at this moment in time. I think most people may be put off on buying a mabook air as it doesnt come with the cd drive as part of the machine, but I can assure all ... buyers out there who still want to use DVD's and want an Air also that this is perfect for you. It is very sturdy and resistent for travelling with and even when you move it around and I have tested it by aggressively thrusting the device while playing a DVD to see if the DVD jumps but at no time has that happened. Even on an airplane it sits on the table alongside the macbook air or just behind it nicely. The only downside with it other than the very steep price. Is the shortness of the USB Cable that is permanently attached to it, if the cable was longer you could have it in more places but this is still more than manageable. Read the complete review |
