Samsung Super-WriteMaster but does it do what the name implies?

It supports all the formats you would expect a DVD drive to support; DVD+, DVD-, DVD RW+/RW- and DVD-RAM. The rated speeds for R and RW are 20x and for DVD RAM media it is 12x. It is an internal 5.25" and installation is as simple as placing it in the cage and screwing it in firmly. Surprisingly this is a drive for motherboards without SATA or ones that have IDE.

IDE drives are usually disadvantage with performance speeds compared to their SATA counterparts but this drive performs well enough and near SATA equivalents.

A music cd of 18 tracks takes approximately 3 and a quarter minutes to burn. CD writing performance is therefore pretty good. I really haven't burned much of RW media and to be bluntly honest there is no point in using CD-RW blanks when DVD-R/RW holds 6 times more data.

DVD writing performance is very good. Depending on the files being burned (photos, videos, audio tracks) the drive can write a full disc in under 7 and a half minutes.

It is also relatively quiet compared to Sony, Pioneer or LiteOn drives. Although it is branded as Samsung it is a joint venture between Samsung and Toshiba which results in these great optical devices. I wouldn't hestitate to use this again only that SATA drives have a much faster transfer rate and can therefore initiate writing earlier and faster.

Nonetheless if your motherboard only has IDE slots this drive is priceless at this price. Totally does what the name says, super fast writemaster.
