Toshiba SD 100 ... only thing better than getting your first DVD player is getting your second one - ‘cos now you’ve got something to compare it to! My first player was a Limit (no, I’d never heard of them, either) as recommended by Richer Sounds. It fitted my budget of £200, so I took it home. It did the job very well until it came unstuck with my "Chicken Run" DVD; it kept freezing at a certain part and I was informed that it was a generic problem with that model. The one they offered me in its place was the Toshiba SD-100E. Personally, I couldn’t care less about the look of my audio/video equipment, but for those of you who do, it’s rec... Sony DVP 536 ... DVP 536 is basically a silver version of the popular DVP 535. I personally opted for this model as I thought it suited my current setup better than a black player, and I find the finish makes it look very distinguished. Coming from a large brand like Sony, and costing £330 (June 2000) you expect it to be able to deliver a quality experience and have enough features to warrent paying the extra price. Socket wise, it doesn't disappoint - as well as the standard CoAx and Optical outputs for decoding Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, the Sony also has an onboard Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, meaning those of us with ProLogic amps can enjoy the full 5.1 soundtrack wit... Proline 2000 DVD ... bought this player based on the recommendations on dooyoo! I've had it about a month now, cost £130 from Comet. It's cheap and cheerful - I decided not to spend big money on a player right now as I'll save it for when a decent-priced DVD recorder comes out. Comet supplied 3 free DVDs with it, you do NOT get to choose. We got The Perfect Storm, Gossip and a Friends disc. Easy to connect - plug in and then connect a SCART lead from the player to the TV. Pah. I like a challenge!! What's this plug-and-play nonsense? ;) Two gripes about it, both fairly minor - when playing DVDs it makes a clicking noise. I don't know what's causin...
