Philips DVD 750:
... player was my first introduction to the world of DVD, and it remains my favourite player of the many I've tried since. Starting with the player itself, it's solidly built, with a well-designed front and good firm ("clicky") buttons for the major functions. It wouldn't look out of place next to (or below) any high-end TV, though the display seems to attract dust more than the res... Read the full review: Definitely Very Desireable by timtm |

Go Video DVR 5000 ... you can watch your DVD movie and record a TV show at the same time. This is combination package will set you back $379 to $499 depending on where you purchase one. One bright side of it is you only have one unit and not two. It is a little bigger than your average VHS player measuring 16.9 inches by 14.1 inches by 3.6 inches and weighing 17 pounds. To record a DVD to a VHS tape, the DVD has to be non-Macrovision encoded. What this means is that more than likely you will not be able to copy a lot of DVDs to a VHS tape. With the easy to use remote, you can switch back and forth between the TV, DVD or VCR. The remote has a good feel to it and will glow in the... Read the full review: DVD plus VHS by |

Sony DVP S335 ... i have high standards so take opinions below as you wish: The Sony certainly looks the part and i was as taken in as anyone but the relative merits of this player only became apparent on watching The Mummy. Although the picture is much better than the first generation of players it still suffers from a lack of detail and contrast in dark regions. That said it handles the sand grains in The Mummy very well producing a very stable, watchable image. The images are watchable if not quite up to cinematic quality. If you have a projector spend more - much more! The sound can only be described as typical (which means quite good). It has a warm balance but... Wharfedale 750 DVD ... rave reviews on the web and in magazines I finally succumbed to the Wharfedale 750s from TESCO. This was not my first experience with budget DVD players after auditioning several duff 'CYBERHOME' DVD players from WH Smith. I dont want to come across as being cheap but cost does play a large factor in my buying decisions! Connection of the DVD is extemely straight forward and I was playing my first disk within minutes of unpacking the box. Picture quality is pin sharp on my Sony Wega TV which is pretty unforgiving to bad digital sources (On Digital...Ahem!). It has several features that are normally only found on the higher end players such as DTS s... Read the full review: Great Value but check the sound... by mappy |
