The awia xd-dw1 is a top of the range dvd player. Not only does it play dvd's but it plays them onto its own screen, which explains the price tag. It is packed with features such as dolby digital surround sound. It has a built in stereo sound output socket for headphoes, and it has 24 bit cables so it can run at breakneck speed. It can also play standard audio cd's as well as dvd-video format dvd's. It is well styled, in that it is small, and lightweight. It is not so small that you cant see the screen, but the screen is actually generously sized and displays the video in vivid colour. It is easy to control with an easy to set up system and one touch keys that make it simple to use.In addition to this it comes with a remote control so you can sit back and relax whilst watching your dvd. Although, there are some downsides to it.It has a short battery life which can be annoying if you are in the middle of your favourite film when the power cuts out, but there is a power socket on it so you can charge its batteries whilst watching the film on mains power. Another bad point about it is that it is very easily damaged because it only has a thin skin,so if you do buy one then make sure you take care when using it. So in conclusion I would say that it is an origional idea, but is very costly but is a good idea if you do a lot of traveling.
This Aiwa portable DVD player has a crisp, clear Active Matrix Colour TFT Display which is good for watching movies up close. The built in surround sound speakers are what you would expect from a portable dvd - good, but not great. If you want to watch dvds on your television screen it has S-video and composite video outputs. Unfortunately, there are no component outputs, but few televisions today have component inputs so this isn't that big of a deal. There is both a Dolby Digital and DTS output for easy connection to home receiver. The battery life for this player is very disappointing. In my experiences, the battery has lasted between 2 and 2 1/2 hours. Yes, most movies are over in 90 or 120 minutes. However, what if I wanted to watch 2 movies back to back? Or if I wanted to watch one of those really long Kevin Costner movies? There's an adapter which I guess is included to solve this issue, however, try to find a plug when you're sitting in a crowded airport for 5 hours because your flight has been delayed. (Note: plug the charger into the player in order for the dvd to play. If you plug it into the battery, the battery will recharge, but it won't play the dvd. It took me an hour to figure this out and I almost threw the bloody thing across the room in my frustration!) And if this wasn't enough, the battery gets really hot so you can't keep the player on your lap for any extended period of time. If you really, really need an affordable, portable dvd player and only want to watch one movie at a time on it and want to be able to hook it up to your television with ease, then this is the player for you. However, if you would like to watch multiple movies without having to use an adapter or recharging the batteries, then I would suggest that you spend the extra money and get yourself a higher end player.
