      Nice and compact DVD player

      -----------------------------------
      When I bought this product
      -----------------------------------

A few years ago I was after a dvd player as I had been using my PC to watch films on and would rather watch them on my TV as it was at a better viewing angle than the PC, I decided on this model of dvd player which I believe cost me about £20 at the time.

      --------------------------------
      My Experience / Features
      --------------------------------

I got this product home after purchasing and found it very easy to set up, it doesn't have HDMI but does have the HD component option (the blue, green and red cables I believe, known as YPbPr on most televisions I've owned, it also has a Scart socket and s video (looks like a PS2 connector that you would get on a computer mouse).

      ---------------
      Ease of use
      ---------------

As the DVD player is a budget model it only has the outputs I mentioned above so doesn't take too much setting up, it also includes a remote control which I don't think I used that much as I was close enough to the player to press the buttons on the unit itself.

      --------------------------------
      Sound and Picture quality
      --------------------------------

As I no longer use this device (I have a blu ray player now) I can't remember too much about the quality of DVDs played on it, although I do remember the quality being excellent until the picture on the screen started to turn green (I think this might have been the scart cable but I'm not too sure), although my brother now owns this DVD player so I will update the review when he tests it properly (he doesn't have a scart cable).

      ----------
      Storage
      ----------

As this unit is so small and thin it is very easy to store under a TV or any other place it might be stored, it also takes up minimal space on a desk so you won't have to move any devices around to make it fit somewhere.

      ------------
      Summary
      ------------

      Good Points
      *Has YPbPr connections
      *Easy to set up
*Cheap DVD player for someone on a budget

      Bad Points
      *No HDMI port
      *Not many video outputs

      ---------
      Overall
      ---------

I bought this DVD player hoping for it to be a permanent part of my media devices but due to the colour problem I mentioned above I started using my PS3 or Xbox 360 to play my DVDs, If anyone is looking for a DVD player I would highly recommend paying it a little bit more and getting a DVD player from a well known brand, although if you are on a very tight budget then this model will be perfect even if temporarily.

      a great basic player

When the dark nights began to draw in last winter my great gran in law asked if she could borrow some of my videos as se was bored to death of watching the same ones over and over again on her long nights in, to my horror I realised we hadn't brought Nan forward with us into the age of dvd players and I no longer owned any videos so I set off to find a really simple machine that she would be able to use.

The DVD player only cost me £19.99 ad can still be brought for the same price today.

To be honest with you I was very shocked when I got it out the box to find it wasn't really much bigger than a portable dvd player Size H3.8, W22.5, D23.5cm.Weight 1.8kg. It was very easy to find a place for it in nans TV cabinet and she has not had any problems with it over heating,

It is just a very basic dvd player with just one scart socket in the back but that was all we needed for Nan as we only needed to connect it to the TV and didn't want it connected to a stereo or anything for surround sound.

It is really easy and simple to use with nice big chunky buttons on the front and a decent sized remote to go with it.

It plays all the DVDs we have put in it really well and we haven't had any problems with it at all.

I was that impressed by it I went out in April and brought another one for my daughters bedroom after the dvd player built into her TV stopped working as it was easy enough for her to use and didn't take up much space.

I would recommend this to anyone who just wants a basic DVD player with no frills.

you nearly get what you pay for

I bought one of these last year as I wanted a basic player for the bedroom
The menus were fine and i liked the options and settings that were available to me.
The picture quality was acceptable and i was initially happy with this machine

I did not like the very very bright red light in standby, i could not understand why it seemed to be the reverse of; light on when powered up and light off when powered off. It was not a small light and would almost act as a nite lite in our bedroom.
I even found it an irritating aspect of this machine.
I found that I had to unplug this machine unless I was using it.

This machine worked or rather the remote worked only for about 4 weeks and died. The player is currently gathering dust

The player cost only £14.99 at the time i purchased it; so trying to locate a replacement which could cost at least 2 thirds of the price of a new machine doesn't seem worthwhile.

IF THE LIFE EXPECTANCY IS JUST 4 MONTHS THEN DON,T BUY THIS ONE ,PAY A LITTLE EXTRA AND GET THE NEXT ONE UP .............!!!

          Disadvantages

If you want a cheap DVD player, you can't go wrong with this

This little badboy costs £14.59 at Argos, and if all you want is a simple DVD player then you can't go wrong with it. The silver little box (22.5cm wide, 23.5cm deep, 3.8cm high) comes with a remote control, and considering the cost its relatively aesthetically pleasing. I am yet to work out whether its switched on or off when the red light is on... but regardless, if you press play it seems to work. Its got a scart socket for connecting to your TV.

The DVD tray itself does look pretty flimsy - you wouldn't want to hit it with anything. But DVDs is something it can certainly manage.

I've had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. The only minor flaw in it, is that when you switch it on the initial screen has a logo with "Argos value range" on it in grey & white... this screen flickers and is not clear at all. But as soon as its loaded the DVD it works absolutely fine and the picture& dolby sound is great. All that screen serves to do is make you look a bit cheap when you've got friends over... but thats no big deal!

Should you wish to, you can add an Argos warranty for 3 years onto it for £5.99, but I can't imagine anyone bothers with that when the product is only £15.

In summary - cheap, reliable, good. 5 stars for the price.
