Advantages: Cheap, does what it says on the tin

Disadvantages: The initial screen it shows reveals how cheap you are to your mates

This little badboy costs £14.59 at Argos, and if all you want is a simple DVD player then you can't go wrong with it. The silver little box (22.5cm wide, 23.5cm deep, 3.8cm high) comes with a remote control, and considering the cost its relatively aesthetically pleasing. I am yet to work out whether its switched on or off when the red light is on... but regardless, if you press play it seems to work. Its got a scart socket for connecting to your TV.

The DVD tray itself does look pretty flimsy - you wouldn't want to hit it with anything. But DVDs is something it can certainly manage.

I've had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. The only minor flaw in it, is that when you switch it on the initial screen has a logo with "Argos value range" on it in grey & white... this screen flickers and is not clear at all. But as soon as its loaded the DVD it works absolutely fine and the picture& dolby sound is great. All that screen serves to do is make you look a bit cheap when you've got friends over... but thats no big deal!

Should you wish to, you can add an Argos warranty for 3 years onto it for £5.99, but I can't imagine anyone bothers with that when the product is only £15.

In summary - cheap, reliable, good. 5 stars for the price.

Seems rather annoying that it doesn't have a display on the box, telling you how long the DVD has been running etc. Nice review though
