Asda SP DVDTL01
Advantages: Price and performance
Disadvantages: No scart lead
I love movies. I don't watch much television but I love to watch films. So naturally this requires a DVD player. Having previously used our Play station to watch DVD's on I felt that we should get an actual machine. I happened to notice this one in Asda whilst doing my weekly shop. It was on offer at £17. My husband thought it would be rubbish but I figured its a DVD player, all I want it to do is play DVD's. So I took the risk and bought it there and then........the risk paid off as this is a great little machine. I cant understand why anyone would pay more!
This is a nice small compact machine which is very slim. I think that it looks sleek and classy. It isn't covered in buttons and lights and so it sits neatly in the television unit unobtrusively. It is black in colour so it will go with most televisions and isn't garish enough to offset any décor etc. (I think these things are important, lol).
It was really easy to set up this machine, the cables are a good size which is useful if your plug sockets aren't right next to the machine. However it is important to not that this machine didnt come with a scart lead and so this would need to be gotten separately if this is required for your television set. We had a spare one anyway so this was not an issue for us. This is easily connected to to the television and when turned on the picture is very clear. This DVD player plays DVD's with no problems, the picture is clear the sound is good and to be perfectly honest I couldn't tell the difference between this machine and our much more expensive one upstairs. It's is also multi regional player which is great as this means it can play DVD from other countries. This means you can buy foreign DVDs (often for much less) and enjoy them in the same way you normally would. I surprised to see this feature in such a low priced machine.
This machine comes with a basic remote control which is really handy but I find it a bit frustrating as the infra-red can only be picked up if pointed directly at the unit, which can make for some shuffling around. But generally that doesn't really matter.
Is this a top of the range machine? No. Is it a good machine? Yes. Does it work well? Yes.
Overall, It works, it works well. It plays the DVD's. If your looking for a cheaper machine that looks and performs well I would check this out. Why pay more??
Summary: A great DVD player for those on a budget.
