My daughter went into hospital in February and as she's only two, I thought I would treat her to a little portable DVD player so she could watch her favourite shows and movies whilst she was in hospital and when she came out and was confined to bed.
We bought a Daewoo DPC-7600PD from eBay at the very reasonable price of £39.99 brand new boxed and sealed including delivery. A quick look on the net suggests this isn't sold freely on the high street, so I would recommend online if you are wanting to get hold of one.
The box includes;
The Daewoo DPC-7600PD with built in rechargable battery
AC power adaptor / charger
A small plug in aerial
The specifications for the Daewoo DPC-7600PD are as follows:
Size - 21cm x 15cm with 4.8cm depth when closed
Weight - 1200 grams when empty (including battery)
Screen Size - 7 inches
Features - DVD playback (including DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD RW, Divx Playback), Digital Terrestrial decoder, USB playback
Overall I am very happy with the spec for the money we paid.
In use, the DVD player is quiet, with a good, bright and easy to view from any angle screen, with very loud and clear sound, which I was happy with for such a small unit. I've never had a problem playing back any type of DVD or audio CD, and the USB playback is very easy to manouvre using the four way control and select buttons on the unit itself.
The digital TV functionality is a bit of a gimmick and probably only suitable for outdoors in excellent weather in a strong signal areas as indoors the picture was blocky and quite unwatchable. But it's a nice feature to have if you take the Daewoo DPC-7600PD to your caravan and so on.
Downsides to the Daewoo DPC-7600PD are that the screen is on a fixed double hinge (so it opens and closes like a sideways-on book) and I would have prefered it to be twist and flatten against the body of the DVD player, which another player we have does. This means the Daewoo DPC-7600PD is not great to use in the car.
I would have also liked to see a remote control supplied with the Daewoo DPC-7600PD, especially with it being a built in TV unit however this was also not supplied with this model.
Overall though my little girl is very happy with it, it is robust, it is of a very high quality and it is sure to last her which is the most important thing. The battery lasts on average about three hours so just enough to watch a kids movie in however it does only take an hour to charge and you can also keep it plugged in to use it if you are able to. Not supplied, but easily available on eBay is a car charger which does help if you intend to use the Daewoo DPC-7600PD for travelling.
So I do recommend the Daewoo DPC-7600PD, it is a sturdy item suitable for kids as long as you don't mind it not swivelling, and it does have the quirky little touch of digital TV so great for taking on UK holidays. I'll give the Daewoo DPC-7600PD portable DVD player a respectable 4 stars out of 5 with it and recommend it should you find it at a reasonable price.
