Disappointed in unit's reliability (JVC XV 511)

I've owned several JVC audio and video products over the years and have never experienced a single problem. I particularly enjoy the convenience offered by the CompU-Link feature and built an A/V system around JVC components. I was disappointed when, after 2 months of flawless operation, the XV-511 suddenly developed playback problems. My e-mail to the support center was replied to in a reasonable amount of time; however, it deferred to using the telephone support number. I had difficulty getting through, but finally spoke to someone. An EPROM reset proved ineffective and I was told to take the unit to the nearest service center. Normally I would consider this a fluke; however, this experience and similar ones described in user opinions of other JVC DVD players, make me skeptical of JVC's quality control for their DVD players and I would hesitate to give a hardy recommendation.
