Advantages: Region Free, Macrovision can be disabled, Nice remote
Disadvantages: Audio can be dodgy
The Logix 3000 DVD player is a TYT 2000, a clone of the Scan 2000 DVD player. It can play DVD video,Mini DVD, Video cd ( VCD ) Super VCD ( SVCD )Mpeg 1 and 2,and Mp3.And of course, ' normal ' music CDs. It is based on the often used ESS 4318 F chip, which is used also in numerous other players. Now, the main reason I like this machine is because it's firmware can be easily updated. This means that you can not only make the player totally region free, but you can also disable the macrovision. This basically means that you can record a perfect copy of your DVDs onto a video cassette...very handy if, like me, you own kids films on DVD and you dont want jam on the origional disc! There are some good sources of information on the net on how to go about upgrading the player, the best one I've found is a Yahoo! group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Scan2000 OK, more specifics about the Logix 3000. It is black, with a sturdy feeling outer casing. The display panel is blue writing on a black screen...nice! ( I'm impressed easily )It has alot of buttons on the actual machine, but I never use them as the remote is so good. The Remote Control unit is excellent. All of the player functions are on the remote..the only thing it can't do is change the disc for you ( I'm hoping this will be a function on the next new players! ) The remote control feels nice to hold...it is the right shape. I know this sounds odd, but take the blue NTL digital remote...a bad remote...feels ' wrong ' in your hand, buttons aren't in the ' right ' place. Well, the Logix remote feels fine, and the buttons are placed well. The remote also works well from a distance, say, 4 meters away. The picture quality of this player is good. The player supports wide-screen, letterbox conversion for 16:9 video on 4:3 display and pan & scan viewing. The audio quality whilst watching films can be a little poor,
as the volume level seems low. However, this is easy to fix using the firmware update at the Yahoo group. All in all, I think this is a great DVD player. I recommend you really shop around online before buying it, as at the moment is seems to really vary in price depending where you buy it. I got one for a friend (he liked mine so much! )http://www.specialreserve.net It was in the sale and cost £89.99 ( 2 weeks ago ) I have also heard you can get it from here http://www.cd-wow.com/dvd_logix.php For £99.95, again, very cheap, but I haven't shopped here personally. A good buy if you can get it cheap!
