Advantages: Very Cheap, Good accompanying offer

Disadvantages: Not too many features, Currys

Currys - I should know better - especially as a Dooyoo user.

I went on Saturday armed with my first ever Dooyoo payoff to purchase a DVD player. The only reason I went to Currys, apart from the knowledgable assistants, polite service, and attention to detail which only our favourite retailer could provide, was their unbeatable offer.

Buy any DVD player except the Playstation2, and any full priced movie, and pick 4 free DVD films from a list.

Although not spectacular, the list included:
The Perfect Storm
US Marshals
Lethal Weapon 4
Blade Runner
Romeo Must Die
Batman and Robin
A Perfect Murder

I immediately aimed for the budget players. Although being part payed for by Dooyoo, I dont get that many reads, and only had £45 of vouchers to spend.

The cheapest was the Matsui, and at only £129.99, an absolute bargain.

My philosophy was that it will not be too long before writeable DVDs are on the market, so I didn't particularly require longevity, and I was told by another customer there (the assistant, though quite blankly helpful, knew nothing whatsoever about the player - he was probably worried about his exam results) that the innards of this player were widely used across a whole range of other players, and was perfectly suited for simple home use.

For £150 I walked away with a DVD player and 5 movies.

Obviously, the first thing I did at home was behave like a 5 year old at Christmas. The packaging was ripped apart and everything plugged in in order to get started.

The instructions were not too clear, and had no separate feature for anyone who had a digital TV receiver. After a little experimentation I managed to get the picture by plugging the scart lead (not supplied, but I had a spare) directly through my Sky Digibox.

After that, there was need to read any more - it was time to watch.

Picture quality is brilliant - as good as the digital
transmission I recieve, and the sound quality improvement over a VHS tape is astounding.

Operation is simple via the remote, with a simple and rather obvious menu system. (Plus the remote has rather spooky glow-in-the-dark buttons!)

Overall, if you are on a limited budget, and do not really know enough about DVD to appreciate its finer points (I have only just found out that the V is for Versatile!) then this has to be worth a look.
Particularly in light of the current offer at Currys which runs till September, it would be difficult to go wrong with this one.

I too have the DVD120, you can easily make it region FREE. Power up with no disk in. Press play, stop, and fast forward together for about 10 seconds. This will bring up a secret menu. Select coulour system and set to auto. Then select region and set to 0 or free!
Now you can play the cheaper American and Australian disks!

Great op. I would never turn my nose up at matsui. I bought my first Cd player as a matsui in 1987- god i was flash. it cost 130 quid, and when i got anew hi-fi in 1996 i flogged it on for a tenner, and as far as i know it still works.

regards, and reminiscences
