I wanted to pay around £150 DVD and donate the VCR to the kids. A trade mag reccomended the Minato with 5 stars. It was so much cheaper than anything else that I had resrvations but I am very pleased. It does everything promised. DVDs look great. It will even play MP3 off CD-RW back through the TV. They sound OK to me, but I do have a poor ear for music.

The menu is basic, but I was like most people with loads of functions on the VCR I never used. If all you want to do is put in a DVD or CD and play, this does fine. The menu can be slow, but I have only seen this DVD player so do not know if that is typical. It is black, chunky and not pretty, but that is OK for me as it is hidden in a cabinet.

I bought it before Xmas in Texco for £110, and the way things are moving may be even cheaper now. For £110 it desrves 5 stars unless looks and size are important.
