Advantages: Inexpensive, good sound and picture quality

Even though we are just a family of 4, the children are as different as chalk and cheese and so are me and my Better Half. If he watches sports and action, I'll look a mile away. Under these circumstances, 2 television screens in 2 rooms became a necessity. But even this always left 1 or 2 of us sulking. Space constraint and financial constraint made me look at the 'portable' option.
Samsung and Panasonic certainly looked sleek and grand but so did the price tag! I finally opted for this functional DVD player, Mintek MDP-1720 having a remote control, a decent battery life and a shock-absorbent body.
This 1'' x 5.6'' x 17'' portable weighing less than 2 pounds is compatible with VCD, MP3, DVD and CD-RW. It has a DOLBY digital audio output and stereo speakers. Overall, the sonic capacity is commendable. The sound is clear and loud, but then, the sound (squeaks), when the disc is loading is also loud and clear and it teaches us a small lesson in patience as we wait for the disc to load.
The picture quality and colour is good. The slim remote has controls for zoom, search, titles and functions options.
To satisfy our 'Laurel and Hardy' duo, my husband and I gifted them a player each for their respective birthdays and now, our travel during holidays starts on a peaceful note. All in all, the Mintek MDP-1720 is excellent value for money, inexpensive yet practical.
