Panasonic DVD RV 20
by grahambeale
I bought this DVD player from Richer Sounds in London Bridge a few months ago,so I've had a fair amount of time to play with the thing! Picture quality is fantastic and so is the sound. I don't think anyone will be unhappy with the playback functions. It even has a dialogue enhancer to help bring out the verbal sounds from ... the background noise - this is especially good for two speaker systems, where the sound isn't split into the proper channels. The in-film menu can be a little hard to navigate - but once you get used to it, its a doddle. When I bought this from Richer Sounds, I paid the extra 20/30 quid to make the machine multi-region. This is a must if you want to enjoy DVD titles from abroad, such as America. If your worried about playing RCE titles on this player - don't be! I played Hollow Man (region 1) on it the other day, and it works fine. So, as far as I can tell, RCE is beaten on this machine - but that maybe because of the multi-region mod that Richer Sounds fitted. As far as outputs, it has optical output for digital surround sound processors, scart, phono sockets (for hi-fi's). One downer I found is that this DVD player only outputs through scart in composite or S-VHS and not RGB. But to be honest S-VHS seems just as good to me. This player will convert output from PAL DVD's to NTSC (the american standard). On the whole, I would recommend this player to anyone looking to buy something better than the cheapo alternatives. In short if you prefer excellent picture and sound quality to gadgets and output ports, then get this player.

Panasonic DVD L 50
by Sean Archer
I bought my player in December 1999, because I was fed up with watching DVDs on my computer and wanted the ability to watch them wherever I was. Fastforward 18 months, and I have bought 2 TVs, countless DVDs and a stereo to get the full potential out of it. So, is it worth buying? My answer would be a simple 'yes, if you can ... get it cheap enough'. Playback is excellent on both its own screen and normal TVs; it has all the features you'd want, including DTS output and (from some retailers) multi-region playback; and it is very handy to carry around. However, it is comparatively heavy, and it's probably worth getting a newer model now. Make up your own mind...

Panasonic DVD H 1000
by
The Panasonic DVD H1000 is “one of the best quality players in existence,” agree audiophiles. They applaud its “progressive scan mode. This groundbreaking player also offers second to none, crystal audio and video production. The sounds are subtle, distinct and sound like musical instruments. Although the price is hard ... to swallow, the Panasonic DVD H1000 offers features and a level of performance not seen prior to its release late last year. The build and ergonomics are excellent, and the unit is very “stable, albeit heavy. Audio enthusiasts also praise the great remote, which has large transport buttons and glows in the dark. Operation is quick and quiet and there are all kinds of outputs to boot. This is a first rate products of the highest caliber.
