Advantages: Looks Good, Plays All Formats, Reasonably Priced

Disadvantages: BREAKS DOWN, NOISY, Needs Factory Return For Repair.

TWO MAJOR FAILURE'S IN 5 MONTHS

Looks great, plays all kinds of formats and should be good value for money.

BUT.....purchased this machine for occasional use in bedroom (perhaps once a week). In 5 months, this machine has failed twice.

First failure after just 5 weeks (but product not replaced by Philips - but repaired)

Both times it will not recognise ANY disc put into it. The first time round, a new Laser was fitted (requiring the machine to be sent back to Philips) and currently the machine is back with Philips again, the repairer tells me the Laser has failed again.

On the same day from the same store, I purchased a Sony DVD also, for the kids bedroom. That machine is used EVERY day and has been perfect.

Now obviously, not being technical, I dont know if all Philips DVD's have the same Laser, but they may well have?

Unless you are the kind of person that likes hassle, or unless you want to get to know your local repair man very well, I suggest you avoid this DVD like the plague.

Dont know about other Philips DVD's , but for sure, I wont buy anything Philips ever again. As for you, well the decision must be you
