Advantages: Great Picture and Sound
Disadvantages: Occasionaly prolonged layer change
I bought one of these as a gift already owning the more expensive Pioneer 626. I have to say that there is very little difference between the two. The picture on the 535 is comparable to some machines double it's price, it is sharp and vibrant with excellent colour and depth. The sound is also superb, it has plenty of conections allowing it to be intergrated into your home cinema system. Once hooked up to a Dolby Digital decoder it performs very well. It really is hard to fault this system at all. The main difference between this and the more expensive 626 is the lack of an internal sound processors. This means that it is ideal for people that already have a Dolby Digital/DTS amp and want a top quality DVD player for a great price. The player comes with a variets of conection options which should suit the majority of users home set-ups. I was spoiled for choice when it came to conecting it up to the TV. Although composite digital video proved to be the best option. The performance is very similar to the more expensive Pioneers. It is very reliable and will play all the disks thrown at it. It is also possible to have it upgraded to multi region with minimum hassle or expense. The only negative point it the sometimes slow layer change, this seems to be present on most of Pioneers machines but it is a lot less severe than some other manufacturers. Overall Pioneer are proving themselves to be amoung the leaders in the recent DVD players. This machine is asthetically pleasing, simple to use and feature laden. A very nice piece of kit which should suit your pocket.
