Advantages: Excellent Picture Quality, Plays all file types perfectly, Good Price
Disadvantages: None
An excellent DVD player, I bought this machine specifically to play Divx and Xvid movies that I have downloaded from the Internet, and it plays them all flawlessly (unlike a lot of DVD/Divx players).
This machine was a replacement purchase of my Toshiba SD340, which never played a single disk correctly EVER! (Jerking picture, pausing then jumping, and screen ‘blotches’, even on brand new DVD disks). I had the Toshiba SD340 replaced twice, both replacement machines never played any disks or file formats correctly)
This Pioneer DV 575A does everything you want from a DVD/Divx machine, easy to use, terrific picture and sound quality, simple uncluttered menu (and actually looks good, unlike the no-name chepo machines that have god-awful menu screens), the Pioneer DV 575A even plays DVD audio disks.
One big bonus is that this machine auto corrects the displaying of MPEG2 files, which many machines do not do, which means you do not have to zoom in to get the correct aspect ratio on files of this type.
This is the perfect machine for internet movie file downloader’s, you get a sturdy machine with a great quality picture and sound (inc Progressive scan), and if you have a CD or DVD burner, you know you can just download any movie file, quickly burn your downloads onto CD/DVD and watch on your TV, no file format conversion needed at all. Download – Burn - Watch.
If you want a ‘Grade A’ quality machine that plays every file format that you throw at it perfectly every time. Buy this machine, in the UK this player retails for about £100,

- 29/04/05 Mgirl, Divx/Xvid files are ‘PC’ format files that are played on a computer. These two formats are two most popular formats on file sharing network to download TV and Movies in. As most people want to watch downloaded movies and TV shows on their TV not their PC, to avoid a long boring format conversion to a format a DVD player can play, you need a DVD player that can play these 'PC' format files; hence a wave of new players arriving on the market over the last year or so that are 'Divx' compatible.
If you have a Divx compatible DVD player and a CD/DVD burner in your PC, you do not need to convert downloaded movies and TV shows, you just download the files using your favourite file sharing application and burn straight on a CD/DVD disk.
Another benefit of watching movies and TV shows on a TV rather than a PC is that the picture quality is much better (if you have ever watched a movie on a PC, you will know how poor the picture quality is compared to a TV).
This is especially beneficial of fans of TV shows and Movies who live outside the country that made them, as there is typically a long delay until they are released/shown in other countries, thus millions of fans around the world tend to download them from the internet and burn onto CD/DVD and watch them months in advance of them being shown in their country (its also a great way of catching up with movies and TV show episodes that you may have missed when they were originally shown), also downloaded shows have had the adverts cut out.
Whilst there are many Divx/Xvid compatible DVD players on the market, some do not play these files particularly well (as I found my dreadful Toshiba machine), so to find a great machine that plays all file formats perfectly is a great find, as no-one wants to spend their money on a machine only for it to fail in the primary function it was purchased for.
Hope this helps.
