 Pioneer DV 717 DVD Player

Pioneer DV 717

Newest Review: ... for six years. Certainly compared to current players on the market it’s like a behemoth in height, width and depth. But you ... more

... can certainly feel the quality of the construction. The player feels incredibly tough and built to last. Reviews of the 717 praise it for its picture and sound output. I can’t disagree on both accounts. In comparison to my budget player the difference is noticeable. Picture quality looks to be a lot more defined and there is more sharpness in the picture. I can’t really judge to the sound output to it’s full potential as I don’t have home cinema facilities. However I do notice a little bit more definition in this area...more

Premium Review Pioneer DV 717: A Pioneer of Retro DVD (649 words)

I had a cheap dvd player for a while which done the job but unfortunately it packed up. Luckily I have inherited this player due to a family member upgrading to a dvd recorder. From what I’ve read the Pioneer 717 was one of the best dvd players around for it’s time. It’s easy to see why. The player has been modified to cope with playing multi-region discs. This upgrade was done relatively cheaply but is also an upgrade that allows you to pick the region rather than allowing the player to automatically select. This means you’re pretty much ok when it comes to getting around those troublesome discs which try and stop themselves from playing if they detect a ...  Read the complete review

The time was September 1999, a conversation took place between my husband and me, he told me what he wanted....I looked at him blankly and said 'what the hell is a DVE', he corrected my ignorance, 'OK, so what the hell is a DVD'...our lives have never been the same. I had always loved watching videos, but this new fangled concept was a little beyond me. He had convinced me that we really should get one and he had chosen the DV-717, which meant absolutely zilch to my non-technical brain. He explained that we could watch ALL the latest films because it was multi-regional!!! He smiled smugly as he listed all the films I had wanted to watch for ages ...  Read the complete review

This magnificent piece of home entertainment kit is an absolutely amazing Multi-regional DVD player that is available for around £250. It is fully upgraded with PAL/NTSC capability. It has all the usual features such as Dolby Digital, DTS, Twin Wave Laser Pickup etc. The picture is of an absolutely amazing quality and is extremely sharp and clear mainly due to some great system features: - Automatic Jitter Adjustment, which ensures increased tracing stability providing a super-accurate data signal reading, Viterbi RF Decoding Process which greatly improves data reading error correction caused by dirt/dust/fingerprints on discs. ...  Read the complete review

When I had problems with my Pioneer DV-505 I took it back and demanded this one. I had to pay some extra, but it was well worth it. This was the first player in the UK to have a DTS output. This was my main reason for buying it because I like to be future proof. I also bought the multi-region version because I generally import my movies from America. The plaayer is two years old, but still competes with the best of them out at the moment. Picture = 9 The picture produced by this player is nothing short of marvelous. Colours and detail are presented truthfully and there is no motion trailing and smearing from the player. Sound = 9 I have ...  Read the complete review
