      Very helpful

With dvd movies gradually taking over from vhs tapes more and more households across the country are getting a insight into "home cinema" My first venture into the delights of viewing at home came in the shape of a pioneer 909 but sadly some local dropkick decided he too would like this piece of equipment and promtly broke into my home and stole it!!. Several weeks passed and enter a replacement player but this time it was pioneer's replacement model the 919. To look at they are identical with a lovely brushed gold colour which is the same as the japaneese model but a lot nicer looking than the standard balc model that the usa have. The player will play dvds flawlessly and i have not come across any discs yet that have had any complications , films like the matrix play without any faults so it looks like pioneer have got the firmware good on this player. Picture quality is very good and i noticed a slightly better picture than the previous 909 model. The second major selling point of the 919 is its ability to play the forerunner to dvd ,laserdisc. Laserdisc's are much bigger than dvds and infact they are 12 inch in size the same as a old music lp. You are now probably scratching your head wondering how such a large disc fits into a tiny dvd tray ? , well the 919 has 2 loading trays 1 for laserdiscs the other for dvd films. The laserdiscs work great with good picture and sound results. In addition to this the player will play vcd encoded films and also is happy reading cdr and cdrw. Connections consists of 2 scart sockets ,1 svhs and also composite . A rf out is alos there for laserdiscs fans who require the ability to playback any discs that have a dolby digital soundtrack but do remember you will need a rfdemodulator to decode these signals. So i would say if you are in the market for this type of player then you really have no other option as i believe pioneer to be
the only manufacturer who build such a player. Its dvd playback is more than good enough for me and the added bonus of laserdisc is even better due to some great deals can be add on the big internet auction sites. Only bad word against this player is the price , i believe it to be in the region of £600+
