Advantages: Does both region one and two DVDs, one of the cheapest around.

Disadvantages: Can be slow loading DVDs and their menus, doesn't play The Matrix.

I've had one of these for over a year now and it is one of the best things I've bought for a long time.

I originally bought it from MVC for £250 with 5 free DVDs and a DVD disc holder almost a year ago. I knew what I wanted - a player that could do US region DVDs and UK (region one and two) which the sales rep at MVC assured me it could do.

Great, I bought it, plugged it in. I was impressed with the picture and sound quality. Half a year later I visited Florida and bought some region one DVDs.

On my return I immediately tried them in the Proline 1000 DVD player. It didn't work. Naturally I was furious as that was one of the main reasons for purchasing it.

Several months later I bought a DVD magazine and to my suprise the DVD player had a hack to play US DVDs. Great, I was happy again (apparently this has been corrected on more recent players after a recall to fix it).

I then bought The Matrix, one of my favourite films. But it didn't work. The player cannot handle the Internet links placed in the DVD for PCs. Naturally I am disappointed with this but hey, it is just one DVD, for the moment.

The only criticism about the player is that it can be slow loading menus and the DVD.

oh and have you ever bought region 1 disks from http://www.play247.com ??? They seem very reasonably priced and because they are a UK site I wouldn't have to worry about customs and dollars!!!

hello again! if you go to http://www.homecinemachoi ce.com you'll find a review on the new improved proline player. They state that the hack still works just fine ( they tried playing region 1 and 2 disks as well as the Matrix ), a number of other opinions on here also state that it works fine! I have yet to try mine out as I don't have a clue whether my tv supports NTSC! However the point is you should be fine to send it back and get it Matrix friendly! worth doing cause it's a great film!!!! Thanks for your help - hope I've been helpful too!!!!!
