Advantages: Great price, Good picture quality, Easy to use

Disadvantages: Some mechanical noise, V bright front display

I bought this player based on the recommendations on dooyoo! I've had it about a month now, cost £130 from Comet.

It's cheap and cheerful - I decided not to spend big money on a player right now as I'll save it for when a decent-priced DVD recorder comes out.

Comet supplied 3 free DVDs with it, you do NOT get to choose. We got The Perfect Storm, Gossip and a Friends disc.

Easy to connect - plug in and then connect a SCART lead from the player to the TV. Pah. I like a challenge!! What's this plug-and-play nonsense? ;)

Two gripes about it, both fairly minor - when playing DVDs it makes a clicking noise. I don't know what's causing it, but during quiet scenes of a DVD you can hear an annoying high-speed clicking. Second gripe -when machine is switched on (and particularly when playing a disc) the front display is very bright, and the animated picture of a disc going round and round is distracting. I *know* it's playing, OK??

Having said all that, for £130 I'm not complaining. It was easy enough to connect to my TV, please note you *don't* get a SCART cable with it, so you'll need to buy one if you don't already have a spare.

So far I've played about 10 DVDs on it, from blockbuster SFX movies to, well, Friends. Picture quality is great, disc navigation is fine, and the remote control is well-designed and easy to use.

I've also played Region 1 discs on it quite happily - when the player is empty and the drawer closed, press MENU, then 1,6,7 and MUTE (or 1 for Region 1, 2 for Region 2) to select ALL REGIONS.

NB - I haven't tried any RCE discs yet, these are the Region Coding Enhanced ones which supposedly won't play on 'region-free' DVD players. So far only Columbia and Warner seem to have signed up to this standard, but look out for it. I'll be trying to borrow one from a mate to try out rather than risking bu
ying one in case it doesn't play. Opinion to be updated when I've had a go...!
