Advantages: TV format conversion, fancy effects.

Disadvantages: Nothing to make it stand out.

The 909 isn't a bad machine, but I have to say it isn't an astounding machine. I only used one for a week whilst I borrowed it from work, but it did manage to impress me with some of its features. The unit gives a good video output and has provision for Dolby Digital output, but I've not been able to try that out. The performance of the video is solid given the price range, but you could get better by paying more.

The unit provides the standard set of features, plus a few of the slightly more unusual ones. For example the zoom function allowing you to focus in on particular regions of the screen; your chance to play at Blade Runner. One feature that's particularly useful is the ability to switch output to one of PAL, NTSC and SECAM. The unit features proper conversion of formats so you don't have to worry about what your TV can handle. Having only had it for a week I couldn't say if it is easy to Region hack, the version I has was Region 2 only. Before you consider buying one of these I'd recommend looking into that as if you're buying a DVD player, you should make sure you can make it region free.

Overall I have to say I wouldn't really recommend this machine. I believe there are better players in its price range and there certainly are if you'll pay more. Look around in the home cinema magazines if before buying, you could do better.
