**Samsung DVD HD870**
I liked the look of this model for from the first time I saw it was a Samsung. The design is superbly streamline and is the epitome of a classic Samsung model brand. The HD (High definition) title is the best that technology can provide for viewing. The HD870 model is the mother of Samsung's BP100 blue ray DVD player that retails for a wallet stripping 500.00 GBP. This is a little more friendlier on your wallet as I got it online for 220.00 GBP 14 months ago. It has been reliable and if anything is more reliable than the BP100. The reason being that blue ray is very sensitive to disk dust or slight stratches on the disk. The compact tray shape is perfectly shaped for slotting into entertainment centres.
The MP4 coding allows mobile media to be loaded onto a DVD disk. Jpegs can be used as a photo showcase. I've tried viewing AVI coded files and have been pleasantly surprised with the outcome. This model has all the HD quality with the added knowledge that it won't crash on you or get stuck at a vital moment. I've used the playback mode and I perfer it... to newer models such as the BP100it is amazing how familarity with a model can deter you to spend out on a more expensive upgrade. For me time is important and the HD870 has everything that I want when viewing DVD's and recording data back. I feel that now the price has gone down about 20% over the past 14 months it is one of the best buys... The technology will still amuse the techie guys amongst you. The difference is you can still play dirty DVD's that have had the occasional stratch.
Navigation is easy to use as it requres TV tuning when set up accordingly. I won't take 10 minutes as it is well explained for those who actually read the manuals. Samsung has done all this before. They know how to simplify modes and the navigation itself is top class. All the layer recognition is there... from MP2- MP4 WMA DIVX codecs. It does have a great digital camera mode that works as a projector for business presentations or just viewing Jpegs. Just make sure the Jpeg quality is stationed at high quality. It understands the codecs of WMA video so that you can view PC video clips, the only thing to do is to copy onto DVD.
Technically it is sound. The actual features itself... does not impress me that much. It does exactly what it should do, without too many thrills and nice surprises. However, you always pay for what you get. If you are a NASA technician this model won't ignite your rocket; if you want reliability and want an easy life... without worrying about dust particles on your DVD's.. it could be worth spending money on this product. Put it this way Samsung is a top brand. They know their stuff:)
