Advantages: large screen and extensive features

Disadvantages: more expensive than others

Being a lover of gadgets I had been toying with the idea of getting myself a portable DVD player for some time, however I really didn't need one as I obviously wouldn't use it at home and when on holiday or whatever I have my multimedia lap top. So just how would I convince my fiancée of the need for this gadget, easy my four year old son who gets very bored on long car journeys would just love one!

So after persuading her of this fact we set off to look for a cheap portable DVD player. The idea of getting a cheap one went out my mind completely when I saw the Shinco SDP-1250. We had agreed that we would spend no more than £100 because there were so many cheap ones out there but this had so much more going for it not least its looks.

Most of the others we had looked at were all very similar and not too pretty to look at. Their range of features were lacking of anything special and the average screen size was between 6.5 and 8 inch. The Shinco SDP-1250 however was much more impressive with its 10.2 inch LCD screen, its sleek and stylish looks and it extensive range of features and capabilities.

As this was priced at £144.99 it took me a while to talk my other half round to my way of thinking but I am so glad I did. This machine has been in my possession for four and a half months now and has been very very well used I can tell you. No longer does my son want a DVD on long journeys he now wants one even if we are just nipping to asdas.

Although most of the features on this pass both my son and my fiancée by I have tinkered with them all and just love what this machine has to offer, it can play DVD, DivX, XviD, VCD, SVCD, MP3, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, JPEG, Kodak Picture CD which is useful as I have been known to make many a DVD myself and have lots of picture discs and its a lot easier to browse through your favourite snaps with friends on this than it is to haul out lots of albums! It also has a built in card reader so you can put your memory cards from your camera, phone or other devices straight in here and watch or listen to what's on them.

It has a High capacity rechargeable Li-ion battery which will allow you between 2 and a half to three hours constant use before charging, the built in anti shock system on this unit really seems to work unlike others I've heard about. A friend of mine purchased a cheaper machine from his local asda and said that it jumps at the very slightest thing. . The Shinco SDP-1250 however has never to my knowledge skipped once whilst driving and considering where I live is plagued with speed bumps that's quite impressive.

The jacks and ports on this little wonder allow you to add many things to it including believe it or not surround sound speakers.

The jacks and ports.

1 x SD/ MMC / MS slot
1 x USB port
1 x DC in (9 V, 2.5 A)
1 x Composite audio out / in / Optical out
1 x Composite video out /in
1 x S-Video out
1 x Component video out / progressive scan out
1 x Stereo headphone, buy the Headphone jack 1-to-2 splitter option to double it to two jacks .

There are also many additional features I will list only the most impressive.

Multi-Angle Capability
Multi-region (region free) out of the box, plays DVD from any country
Multi-Aspect Ratio Capability : 4:3, 4:3 Letterbox, 16:9
Zoom Play (2X/4X)
Intellectual Upgrade Function
Auto Power Off
Screen Saver/Power Saving Function.

There were also many accessories included when I purchased this item and I understand them to be standard and not part of a special offer.

The accessories.

Multifunction Remote Control
Auto switching AC Adapter (110 -240 V)
High Capacity Rechargeable Lithium Battery (2.5 hours)
Car Adapter
Video Cables: S-Video cable, component video cable, and
composite video cable
Stereo audio Cable

I would not hesitate in recommending this item to anyone looking for a portable DVD player; yes there are many cheaper on the market but none so impressive! We have so far had no problems with this machine but there is a 2 year warranty with it as standard should one arise.

Thanks for reading this review and I hope it was of use to you!!
