Sony DVP NS705V ... is the broad range of disc formats that it can play back. It offers excellent playback capabilities of DVD-RW (video mode and VR mode)/ DVD-R/+RW/+R, CD, CD-RW/R, video CD, super video CD. Another key feature is its ability to playback data CD with MP3. To enhance this feature, the player incorporates a new MP3 browser, which makes disc navigation quick and intuitive, using a series of on-screen graphic user interfaces (GUI). The DVP-NS705V offers superior audio capabilities in a broad range of disc formats. With respect to super audio CD software, the player provides playback of two-channel stereo and 3/3.1/4/4.1/5 and 5.1 multi-channel recordings. To maximize enjoyment of surround sound while enjoying your DVD-video, it features Sony's unique Digital Cinema Sound (DCS) for 5.1 multi-channel speaker installations, Dolby Digital, MPEG decoders and 192kHz/24 bit high-quality audio D/A converter. This advanced audio facility provides a range of virtual surround sound modes including Virtual Multi Dimension, Virtual Multi Rear and Virtual Rear Shift, Normal and Enhanced Surround. For users without multi-channel speaker systems, the feature TV Virtual Surround uses the TV's existing stereo speakers to simulate the effects of surround sound by creating 'virtual speakers' around the user.

NS705V offers high-quality images thanks to the incorporation of Sony's Precision Drive2 system - including High Speed Stepping motor and the Dynamic Tilt Compensation mechanism - provides faster and more accurate tracking of playback of DVDs. Compatible with many kinds of DVD-video disc, Precision Drive2 compensates for disc warp and other disc imperfections. Other factors contributing to this superb picture quality are Block Noise Reduction (BNR) and Digital Video Enhancer (DVE). The Video Equalizer feature allows the user to adjust the video output to suit their requirements. Users can manually adjust picture brightness, color and hue to suit their requirements.

Ease of operation is a focus of the DVP-NS705V. Sony's "Magic Pad" provides a clear graphical user interface whilst playing a disc. At the same time, the player's Picture Navigation system makes operation easy: from angle selection to strobe playback. The on-screen display provides a wealth of information about the loaded disc; in particular, a chapter viewer displays the first picture of each chapter on the disc and all the viewing angles on screen so that user selection is quick and easy. Another feature, which makes movie watching fun and easy, is a 40-disc resume memory. This advanced feature means that if you watch a movie part way through and then swap discs, when you reinsert the original disc it will automatically restart at the place where you stopped playback previously. Effective for DVD-video, video CD and S-video CD, the memory can store resumes for up to 40 discs and is controlled on the machine's setup menu. An on-screen Quick Set-Up facility provides easy to follow guidance and advice in eleven European languages.
