As each member of my family have very different taste in films we tend to just watch what we want to watch on our own. Sounds sad but it stops the arguing over films every other night. This also means that we have 4 different dvd players with this one being the best. Unfortunately not mine but is certainly snuck into my room constantly as it seems its rare you ever find a DVD player that lasts longer than a few months without having the disk getting stuck or just deciding it doesn't want to turn on any more.

I brought my brother this DVD player after sneaking his into my room and breaking it not long after. Its cost me £45 from amazon but seems to have risen to £67 since then so I guess I was just lucky. Away from amazon and looking through Google shopping, this product ranges from £30- £59. Probably sound a bit too much for a DVD player when you can buy one for so much cheaper however, in my experience going for the more expensive option is, in the end cheaper and its much longer lasting and wont need to be replaced as often.

It doesn't look like much. There no cool, modern appearance to it that makes it stand out much from any other DVD player. It has a black, shiny case with Sony written on the front. Besides this is a screen showing you the how the film has been on as well as giving you a little greeting when turned on. The only buttons on the front is a play, stop (also can be used as pause when pressed once) and the on and off button. Id much rather more options on the front as buttons often get lost in our house.

Another good point about this DVD player (although it probably not a good idea to mention it on here) is the fact it can play pirate DVDs. For some reason some DVD player tend not to allow these ones to play and doesn't recognise the disk but this one plays them nearly every time.

Overall, it's lasted a long time in our house which is saying something as technology has a habit of breaking with my family. It does everything you need it to do so even though its quite pricey id say its worth it.

Along with phones, cameras, remote controls and kettles, DVD players are one of the many electrical items in my house that rarely lives past its first birthday. I often consider whether our house is cursed but realisation hits me after remembering our method of fixing things is hitting, throwing, and banging them until there back to normal. However, this DVD has managed it somehow.

This DVD player was bought for me over a year ago. I needed a reliable one as I'm a film student and need to regularly use it.

      ***About the DVD Player***

There is no major difference from the player to any other players other than its looks. This player is black with a small screen on the front to tell you the length of the film, track or programme you are watching. It also has a nice welcome and goodbye for you when you turn it on and off. The on and off button is on the left hand side while the stop, play and eject buttons are placed on the other.

It's quite slim and surprisingly light so there's no hassle carrying it from room to room. Although the plastic casing does seem quite thin and wouldn't take much to break or crack it, so far I haven't damaged it in any way.

      *The bad points*

There's only one thing that really annoys me about this player and it's only a little problem. As this house is always breaking and losing remote controls, it would be nice to have a few more controls on the DVD player itself. There is no way to fast forward or rewinding without the remote which gets on my nerves a bit, plus having to press stop instead of pause means you have to wait a bit longer for the film to starts once stopped.

      ***Price***

The Sony Nsc318b can be bought for about £45 on average unless ordered online for around £35.

      ***Overall***

It's not the best DVD player I have ever had but it does the job. However, I would recommend considering a different one because of the price. You can get much cheaper ones that do the job just as well.

        ** Sony DVP NS318B **

Just as we wanted to watch a DVD the player stopped working. This happened to us a few months ago and I still feel annoyed by it! After five years of serving us with great pleasure we had to let him go and buy a new one. We saw this DVD player and it was about 45 pounds. We trust the brand Sony so we thought this was the best option for us.

        **********************************************************

The DVD player was packed up in a plain cardboard box. In the box was the player, remote, manual and a warranty card. Not included is the audio-video cable and scart cable. You need to buy them separately. However there were two batteries in the remote! The manual is easy to understand with FAQ so that is quite good.

        **********************************************************

The DVD player is flat and shiny. On the top left is the on / off button. Top right is a button to open and close the disc and you also have the play and stop button. On the left side you find the display with information about the DVD like running time. On the back you find all the connection ports.

        **********************************************************

The remote is universal and can also be used for the television of another brand. You can connect a USB device where you can play a video, photos and music files from. You can play the following discs/files: CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DivX, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD + R, DVD + RW, JPG, MP3, WMA. It seems to be able to play everything. Sometimes we make our own CD with music or movie and goes fine.

        **********************************************************

This DVD player was a real bargain for us. It's a lightweight that is also very versatile. I was pleasantly surprised that there is a guarantee period of two years. Installation was done in a few minutes. Unfortunately you do have to buy some cables but luckily we still had them from our old DVD player. I think the price is fair but this DVD player doesn't play Blue ray. It's the really only downside but we thought we didn't really needed this anyway. At least for a couple of years and a blue ray player was more expensive.
